Abstract

Learning humanoid control from monocular human videos offers a scalable way to acquire diverse whole-body behaviors. Yet, existing reconstruction-retargeting-tracking pipelines are limited in system-level scalability by separately optimized intermediate stages and cannot directly optimize reference motion executability using downstream tracking feedback. We present ViT-H, a video-to-humanoid control framework following a generation-and-tracking paradigm. ViT-H directly generates humanoid reference motions from videos with a diffusion model, bypassing human motion reconstruction and retargeting, and uses motion-tracking outcomes to post-train the generator with direct preference optimization. We further introduce an autoregressive variant that enables real-time humanoid video teleoperation with sub-400 ms latency. Extensive experiments on the Unitree G1 demonstrate that ViT-H outperforms state-of-the-art reconstruction-retargeting-tracking pipelines in both motion quality and executability. We further show that ViT-H scales favorably with model size and with both pre-training and post-training data scale, while motion-tracking feedback consistently improves executability across different motion trackers.

BeyondRetarget: Learning Executable Humanoid Motions Directly from Monocular Video

Learning executable motions from human videos offers a scalable solution for humanoid robots to acquire demonstration motions. However, existing pipelines typically first construct an explicit human motion representation and then convert it into robot motions via motion retargeting. Although such methods can effectively leverage large volumes of existing human data for training, the substantial differences between humans and humanoid robots in locomotion mechanisms and joint degree-of-freedom configurations make motions generated by this human-representation-centric approach difficult to execute on robots. Furthermore, errors introduced during human motion estimation inevitably propagate to the retargeting stage and cannot be eliminated via joint optimization. We propose BeyondRetarget, an end-to-end framework that directly maps monocular RGB videos to robot motions. Discarding the explicit human representation, this framework learns robot-oriented implicit representations directly from visual observations, enabling the model to capture cross-morphology motion structures. To generate motions more suitable for robot execution, we further design a contact-aware motion optimization mechanism to improve temporal consistency and physical plausibility. Experiments show that BeyondRetarget significantly improves the accuracy and robustness of generated robot motions, while achieving higher execution success rates and lower latency in both simulation environments and real humanoid robots.

Humanoid-GPT: Scaling Data and Structure for Zero-Shot Motion Tracking

We introduce Humanoid-GPT, a GPT-style Transformer with causal attention trained on a billion-scale motion corpus for whole-body control. Unlike prior shallow MLP trackers constrained by scarce data and an agility-generalization trade-off, Humanoid-GPT is pre-trained on a 2B-frame retargeted corpus that unifies all major mocap datasets with large-scale in-house recordings. Scaling both data and model capacity yields a single generative Transformer that tracks highly dynamic behaviors while achieving unprecedented zero-shot generalization to unseen motions and control tasks. Extensive experiments and scaling analyses show that our model establishes a new performance frontier, demonstrating robust zero-shot generalization to unseen tasks while simultaneously tracking highly dynamic and complex motions.

Fast Motion Retargeting Pipeline for Scalable Humanoid Robot Learning

While large-scale human motion capture datasets provide a rich source of demonstrations for humanoid robot learning, retargeting the diverse motions to different humanoid robots remains a nontrivial challenge. Existing kinodynamic trajectory optimization pipelines are computationally expensive and often require manual adjustments per motion. We present FRDV (Fast Retargeting with Dynamics Validation), a scalable framework consisting of rapid constrained kinematic retargeting and an additional dynamics validation pipeline. Its kinematic stage integrates a custom Sequential Quadratic Programming solver, Real-Time Iteration, and parallel chunk-based processing, achieving up to 9,156 frames per second, approximately up to 136 times faster than GMR and ProtoMotions, while robot-specific constraints are incorporated into the optimization to reduce common retargeting artifacts, such as ground penetration and self-collision. For motions requiring additional verification, a contact implicit iLQR controller is utilized to test the retargeted reference under full rigid body dynamics. This dynamics-based validation identifies dynamically infeasible motions and refines contact-related artifacts such as foot floating and foot skating. We evaluate retargeting quality by training motion tracking reinforcement learning policies using several state-of-the-art pipelines and comparing their tracking fidelity and success rates. Furthermore, sim-to-real transfer is demonstrated on a Unitree G1 humanoid. Videos and code are available at: https://daroslab.github.io/frdv/.
