Abstract

Object goal navigation requires an embodied agent to locate and reach target objects in complex environments. Humans often rely on low-cost yet informative schematic maps, such as rough sketches or directional annotations. We develop a workflow for schematic-guided embodied navigation with two components: a training-data generation pipeline and ScheNav, a closed-loop navigation framework. Our lightweight data-generation pipeline turns 2D floorplans into navigation training environments, yielding Furnished-RPLAN, a dataset of over 33k furnished layouts with paired navigation episodes and noise-controllable schematic maps. ScheNav turns rough schematic guidance into exploration and stopping decisions by using SchemaField, a learned spatial module that fuses the guidance with accumulated observations and predicts spatial value fields. The framework updates these fields as exploration proceeds, with trajectory-based training and a cross-frame consistency objective supporting coherent guidance across changing viewpoints. ScheNav learns to use schematic guidance entirely from simulated floorplans and transfers this ability to unseen embodied environments. Experiments show improved navigation success and path efficiency across schematic maps, goal ellipses, and pointed directions, together with tolerance to the tested schematic perturbations and omissions. Together, these results demonstrate that rough schematic guidance offers a practical way to improve embodied navigation.

FloVerse: Floor Plan-Guided Multi-Modal Navigation

Floor plans encapsulate compact spatial priors, enabling agents to navigate unseen scenes more efficiently. While prior work has explored floor plan-guided navigation, it has focused mainly on PointNav and a limited set of environments. To bridge this gap, we introduce FloVerse, a new task for floor plan-guided embodied navigation that unifies PointNav, ObjectNav, and ImageNav. To support FloVerse, we assemble FloVerse-1.6K, a large-scale dataset of 1.6K scenes from HM3D and Gibson 4+, paired with corresponding floor plans, comprising 240K expert trajectories and 12M RGBD frames. We further propose ThreeDiff, a two-stage imitation learning policy comprising a planner, a diffusion-based multimodal goal-reasoning module trained via masked-modality modeling, and a refiner, a depth-based trajectory-refinement module for safe execution. Extensive experiments demonstrate that (1) floor-plan priors improve navigation performance across all goal modalities, and (2) ThreeDiff implicitly captures spatial information from floor plans. These results underscore the effectiveness of spatial priors and validate our proposed unified approach for floor plan-guided embodied navigation.

FloorPlan-VLN: A New Paradigm for Floor Plan Guided Vision-Language Navigation

Existing Vision-Language Navigation (VLN) task requires agents to follow verbose instructions, ignoring some potentially useful global spatial priors, limiting their capability to reason about spatial structures. Although human-readable spatial schematics (e.g., floor plans) are ubiquitous in real-world buildings, current agents lack the cognitive ability to comprehend and utilize them. To bridge this gap, we introduce FloorPlan-VLN, a new paradigm that leverages structured semantic floor plans as global spatial priors to enable navigation with only concise instructions. We first construct the FloorPlan-VLN dataset, which comprises over 10k episodes across 72 scenes. It pairs more than 100 semantically annotated floor plans with Matterport3D-based navigation trajectories and concise instructions that omit step-by-step guidance. Then, we propose a simple yet effective method FP-Nav that uses a dual-view, spatio-temporally aligned video sequence, and auxiliary reasoning tasks to align observations, floor plans, and instructions. When evaluated under this new benchmark, our method significantly outperforms adapted state-of-the-art VLN baselines, achieving more than a 60% relative improvement in navigation success rate. Furthermore, comprehensive noise modeling and real-world deployments demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of FP-Nav to actuation drift and floor plan distortions. These results validate the effectiveness of floor plan guided navigation and highlight FloorPlan-VLN as a promising step toward more spatially intelligent navigation.

SkillNav: Score-Level Skill Intervention for Zero-Shot Object Goal Navigation

Vision-Language Model (VLM) agents have advanced zero-shot object-goal navigation, yet single-frame reasoning leaves them without the cross-step behavioral awareness an embodied navigator requires, producing recurring failures such as dead-end stalls, in-room loops, and circuitous approaches to detected targets. Prompt-based remedies inflate token budgets across multi-submodule episodes and still struggle to encode inherently spatial signals such as angles, map cells, and viewpoint coordinates. In this paper, we propose SkillNav, an extensible behavioral skill framework for VLM-based navigation that treats the curiosity value map already maintained by modern VLM navigators as a writable substrate on which composable skills inscribe behavioral memory at zero token cost. Skills are stratified into three tiers by their level of behavioral authority, namely soft scaling for proportional reweighting, lower-bound boost for region-level guarantees, and hard override for threshold-triggered forced actions, and cooperate across tiers under a fixed composition order that establishes a predictable, declared priority among skills. This design turns capability improvement into skill registration: new behaviors plug in without retraining the VLM or disturbing existing skills, opening a path for continual refinement. A minimal prompt channel complements the score-level skills with category-level semantic hints, yielding a dual-representation design in which spatial memory lives on the map and semantic memory in short prompts. Training-free, SkillNav establishes new state-of-the-art SPL across MP3D (25.5), HM3D v0.1 (39.3), and HM3D v0.2 (43.2), improving SPL by up to 6.0 absolute over the strongest prior method, and achieves the highest Success Rate on HM3D v0.1 (69.7) and v0.2 (75.9).
