Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory esophageal disease diagnosed by counting eosinophils in biopsy samples; current manual methods are time-consuming and prone to error. Research focuses on developing automated diagnostic tools using deep learning, particularly employing instance segmentation models like CircleSnake and Mask R-CNN, and ensemble learning strategies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of eosinophil detection in whole slide images. These advancements aim to streamline diagnosis, potentially leading to more consistent and timely treatment decisions for patients with EoE, and also to improve the understanding of disease heterogeneity through analysis of spatial biomarker distributions.
