Facial Albedo
Facial albedo, representing the inherent color and reflectivity of a face independent of lighting, is a crucial aspect of 3D face modeling and virtual avatar creation. Current research focuses on accurately estimating facial albedo from single images, overcoming the inherent ambiguity caused by the interplay of lighting and albedo, and addressing biases towards lighter skin tones in existing methods. This involves developing sophisticated deep learning models, often incorporating 3D Morphable Model (3DMM) priors and adversarial training techniques, to achieve high-fidelity reconstructions. Accurate albedo estimation is vital for creating realistic and inclusive virtual avatars and advancing applications in computer graphics, virtual reality, and forensic science.
