Infrastructure Based Perception System
Infrastructure-based perception systems (IPS) aim to enhance the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles and traffic management by deploying sensors on roadside infrastructure to provide a wider, less occluded view of the environment than vehicle-mounted sensors alone. Current research focuses on developing robust data fusion techniques to combine information from multiple sensor modalities (cameras, LiDAR) located at various positions, evaluating system performance using standardized metrics and real-world datasets, and optimizing sensor placement strategies for maximal coverage and cost-effectiveness. This research is crucial for advancing cooperative driving automation, improving traffic flow, and ultimately enhancing road safety.
