Leaf Segmentation
Leaf segmentation, the automated identification and delineation of individual leaves in images, is crucial for plant phenotyping and agricultural applications. Current research emphasizes developing robust methods for accurate segmentation, focusing on both 2D and 3D image analysis using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), including pre-trained models and novel architectures designed for handling complex backgrounds and overlapping leaves. These advancements are driven by the need for efficient, high-throughput analysis of plant traits, enabling improved crop monitoring, disease detection, and precision agriculture practices. The development of large, publicly available datasets is also a key focus, facilitating the training and evaluation of these increasingly sophisticated algorithms.
