Leaky Integrate and Fire Neuron
Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (LIF) neurons are a fundamental model in spiking neural networks (SNNs), aiming to mimic the behavior of biological neurons for energy-efficient computation. Current research focuses on enhancing LIF neuron models, such as incorporating adaptive mechanisms, multiple compartments, and gated functionalities, to improve performance in spatio-temporal processing tasks and address limitations like vanishing gradients during training. These advancements are driving progress in SNN applications, including pattern recognition, time series prediction, and neuromorphic hardware implementation, by improving accuracy, speed, and energy efficiency.
