Current efforts concentrate on developing robust methods for encoding performance data within score representations, using techniques like graph neural networks and transformer models to analyze and generate scores from various input formats (including images and MIDI data), and formalizing the representation of time units for efficient processing. These advancements have implications for music education (e.g., automated difficulty assessment), music information retrieval (e.g., version identification), and creative applications (e.g., computer-assisted music composition).
