Oracle Character
Oracle character recognition (OCR) focuses on automatically identifying ancient Chinese characters from oracle bone inscriptions, a crucial task for archaeological and philological research hampered by limited annotated data and image degradation. Current research heavily employs unsupervised domain adaptation techniques, leveraging labeled hand-printed characters to improve recognition of scanned inscriptions, often using novel neural network architectures that disentangle structural and textural features or incorporate attention mechanisms for improved robustness and interpretability. These advancements are significantly improving the accuracy of OCR for oracle characters, facilitating the automated analysis of a vast and historically significant corpus of texts.
