Residential Segregation
Residential segregation, the uneven distribution of different social groups across residential areas, is a persistent societal issue studied through various modeling approaches. Current research focuses on refining agent-based models, often incorporating game-theoretic frameworks and machine learning algorithms like deep Q-networks, to simulate complex social dynamics and explore the impact of factors such as moving costs and individual preferences on segregation patterns. These models aim to provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms driving segregation and inform policy interventions, such as redrawing school attendance boundaries to promote greater integration. Ultimately, this research seeks to develop more effective strategies for mitigating segregation and fostering more equitable and diverse communities.
