Rock Typing

Rock typing aims to classify geological formations based on their physical and chemical properties, traditionally relying on destructive laboratory methods. Current research focuses on developing digital rock typing (DRT) techniques, leveraging advanced image analysis (like computer vision) and machine learning algorithms to analyze micro-CT and MRI scans, enabling non-destructive characterization. This shift towards DRT offers significant advantages by providing more comprehensive and detailed rock property estimations, improving reservoir modeling and ultimately enhancing oil and gas exploration and production efficiency.
