Sociotechnical Gap
The sociotechnical gap describes the disconnect between the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) systems and the actual needs and expectations of human users within their social and organizational contexts. Current research focuses on bridging this gap, particularly within Explainable AI (XAI), by developing evaluation methods that assess AI performance based on real-world socio-requirements and by designing systems that transparently reveal both their functionalities and limitations. This work aims to improve the usability, trustworthiness, and ethical implications of AI systems across various applications, impacting both the design of future AI and the responsible integration of AI into society.
