Solar Rooftop Potential
Assessing the untapped potential of solar energy from rooftop installations is a crucial area of research, aiming to accurately estimate the amount of solar power that could be generated from buildings. Current efforts leverage high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery combined with deep learning techniques, such as instance segmentation and semantic segmentation models, to automatically identify and analyze suitable rooftop areas, accounting for factors like shading and roof geometry to optimize panel placement. These analyses provide valuable data for policymakers and energy companies, enabling informed decisions about solar energy infrastructure development and contributing to the transition towards renewable energy sources.
