Threat Assessment
Threat assessment research focuses on automatically identifying and prioritizing potential risks across diverse domains, from online threats and cybersecurity vulnerabilities to physical infrastructure safety and public health. Current efforts leverage machine learning, particularly large language models and deep learning architectures, to analyze textual data (e.g., social media posts, cyberattack descriptions), sensor data (e.g., pipeline vibrations), and visual information (e.g., CCTV footage) for threat detection and classification. These advancements offer significant potential for improving security, safety, and public health by enabling faster, more accurate, and scalable threat identification and response, though challenges remain in addressing biases and ensuring ethical implementation.
