Verbal Negation
Verbal negation, the linguistic process of expressing denial or opposition, poses significant challenges for natural language processing (NLP) models. Current research focuses on improving model performance in handling negation, particularly within large language models (LLMs) like BERT and RoBERTa, often using contrastive learning methods and novel datasets designed to specifically test negation understanding. This work highlights the limitations of existing models in accurately interpreting negated statements and underscores the need for improved datasets and training paradigms to enhance the robustness and reliability of NLP systems across various tasks, including question answering and image captioning.
