PASDiff: Physics-Aware Semantic Guidance for Joint Real-World Low-Light Face Enhancement and Restoration

Face images captured in real-world low light suffer multiple degradations-low illumination, blur, noise, and low visibility, etc. Existing cascaded solutions often suffer from severe error accumulation, while generic joint models lack explicit facial priors and struggle to resolve clear face structures. In this paper, we propose PASDiff, a Physics-Aware Semantic Diffusion with a training-free manner. To achieve a plausible illumination and color distribution, we leverage inverse intensity weighting and Retinex theory to introduce photometric constraints, thereby reliably recovering visibility and natural chromaticity. To faithfully reconstruct facial details, our Style-Agnostic Structural Injection (SASI) extracts structures from an off-the-shelf facial prior while filtering out its intrinsic photometric biases, seamlessly harmonizing identity features with physical constraints. Furthermore, we construct WildDark-Face, a real-world benchmark of 700 low-light facial images with complex degradations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PASDiff significantly outperforms existing methods, achieving a superior balance among natural illumination, color recovery, and identity consistency. Code and dataset will be available at https://github.com/IVIPLab/PASDiff.

MSign: An Optimizer Preventing Training Instability in Large Language Models via Stable Rank Restoration

Training instability remains a critical challenge in large language model (LLM) pretraining, often manifesting as sudden gradient explosions that waste significant computational resources. We study training failures in a 5M-parameter NanoGPT model scaled via μμP, identifying two key phenomena preceding collapse: (1) rapid decline in weight matrix stable rank (ratio of squared Frobenius norm to squared spectral norm), and (2) increasing alignment between adjacent layer Jacobians. We prove theoretically that these two conditions jointly cause exponential gradient norm growth with network depth. To break this instability mechanism, we propose MSign, a new optimizer that periodically applies matrix sign operations to restore stable rank. Experiments on models from 5M to 3B parameters demonstrate that MSign effectively prevents training failures with a computational overhead of less than 7.0%.

CoLR-Det: Collaborative Latent Restoration for Small Object Detection in Low-Resolution Remote Sensing Images

Low-resolution remote sensing small object detection is limited by both missing visual details and the ambiguity of how details serve detection. Existing super-resolution-assisted detectors generally follow a restoration-first paradigm to explicitly enhance inputs before detection, which implicitly assumes visual fidelity benefits recognition. Yet super-resolution favors dense texture and edge recovery, while object detection relies on sparse instance-level semantics, making restoration amplify visually plausible but semantically irrelevant background textures. To tackle this issue, we propose CoLR-Det, a Collaborative Latent-Restoration-Assisted Small Object Detection framework that treats super-resolution supervision as detection-oriented latent regularization rather than explicit image-level enhancement. Instead of reconstructing high-resolution images for inference, CoLR-Det uses a training-only restoration branch to impose auxiliary reconstruction constraints on shared multiscale representations, and the inference pathway remains purely detection-driven. We further design a saliency-guided object-preserving token routing mechanism, which prioritizes high-saliency tokens for attention-based refinement while retaining information of bypassed tokens. Besides, a detection-prioritized two-stage optimization strategy is developed: it first builds stable object-level semantics before introducing restoration supervision, and assigns a smaller learning rate to the SR decoder to keep its updates conservative and reduce perturbations in collaborative training. With this design, CoLR-Det transforms restoration from an explicit visual enhancement operator into an implicit semantic regularizer. Experiments on resolution-degraded NWPU VHR-10-Split, DOTAv1.5-Split and HRSSD-Split show that CoLR-Det outperforms state-of-the-art methods, with code available at https://github.com/qiruo-ya/CoLR-Det.

HaineiFRDM: Structure-Preserving Diffusion for Film Restoration under Fast Motion and Diverse Defects

Existing film-restoration methods frequently fail under fast motion, producing limb disappearance and structural distortion due to inaccurate motion modeling. Moreover, high-resolution restoration under spatially-persistent and mixed defects remains insufficiently studied. We propose HaineiFRDM, a Film Restoration Diffusion Model that leverages the content modeling capability of diffusion models for content-aware restoration, removing defects while preserving scene structure. To enable scalable high-resolution restoration, we adopt a patch-wise strategy with position-aware global fusion modules to maintain cross-patch coherence. We further introduce a frequency-based module to enhance texture consistency and a patch-consistent inference framework to alleviate blocking artifacts introduced by patch-based processing. We also construct a film restoration dataset comprising categorized defect templates, professionally restored films, and realistic synthetic degradations.Extensive experiments demonstrate our superior restoration quality with strong structural consistency. Our design also reduces memory requirements, enabling high-resolution restoration on a single 24GB-VRAM GPU.Code and the dataset will be released at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/HaineiFRDM.

CharDiff-LP: A Diffusion Model with Character-Level Guidance for License Plate Image Restoration

License plate image restoration is important not only as a preprocessing step for license plate recognition but also for enhancing evidential value, improving visual clarity, and enabling broader reuse of license plate images. We propose a novel diffusion-based framework with character-level guidance, CharDiff-LP, which effectively restores and recognizes severely degraded license plate images captured under realistic conditions. CharDiff-LP leverages fine-grained character-level priors extracted through external segmentation and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) modules tailored for low-quality license plate images. For precise and focused guidance, CharDiff-LP incorporates a novel Character-guided Attention through Region-wise Masking (CHARM) module, which ensures that each character's guidance is restricted to its own region, thereby avoiding interference with other regions. In experiments, CharDiff-LP significantly outperformed baseline restoration models in both restoration quality and recognition accuracy, achieving a 28.3% relative reduction in character error rate (CER) on the Roboflow-LP dataset compared with the best-performing baseline.

Predicting Estimated Times of Restoration for Electrical Outages Using Longitudinal Tabular Transformers

Utilities publish Estimated Times of Restoration (ETRs) for customer-facing storm outages, and their accuracy governs whether customers can make sound decisions about food, medical equipment, and relocation. Prior work treats ETR as static tabular regression in which each outage contributes one record, discarding the fact that every development of an outage, from crew assignment through dispatch, suspension, damage assessment and partial restoration, is recorded as a revision. We reformulate ETR prediction as longitudinal tabular regression and introduce a Longitudinal Tabular Transformer (LTT), an axial-attention model that consumes the revisions preceding a prediction and issues a refined estimate at every one. On 242{,}928 storm-attributed outages from a cohort of 526{,}468 filtered events and 10.0 million revisions at six operating companies, LTT reduces customer-weighted asymmetric error at all six, by a median of 36.9,% against the estimates the utilities published during the same storms and 11.3,% against the strongest learned baseline at each. It is the only method improving on the incumbent's satisfaction impact at all six companies while also reducing root mean squared error at all six. Stratification by revision index shows that LTT error is largest at the first revision, where no history is available, and falls monotonically as revisions accumulate.

Lumina-OmniLV: A Unified Multimodal Framework for General Low-Level Vision

We present Lunima-OmniLV (abbreviated as OmniLV), a universal multimodal multi-task framework for low-level vision that addresses over 100 sub-tasks across four major categories: image restoration, image enhancement, weak-semantic dense prediction, and stylization. OmniLV leverages both textual and visual prompts to offer flexible and user-friendly interactions. Built on Diffusion Transformer (DiT)-based generative priors, our framework supports arbitrary resolutions -- achieving optimal performance at 1K resolution -- while preserving fine-grained details and high fidelity. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that separately encoding text and visual instructions, combined with co-training using shallow feature control, is essential to mitigate task ambiguity and enhance multi-task generalization. Our findings also reveal that integrating high-level generative tasks into low-level vision models can compromise detail-sensitive restoration. These insights pave the way for more robust and generalizable low-level vision systems.
