Audio-Visual Speech Enhancement: Architectural Design and Deployment Strategies

Real-time audio-visual speech enhancement (AVSE) is a key enabler for immersive and interactive multimedia services, yet its performance is tightly constrained by network latency, uplink capacity, and computational delay. This paper presents the design, deployment, and evaluation of a complete cloud-edge-assisted AVSE system operating over a public 5G edge network. The system integrates CNN-based acoustic enhancement and OpenCV-based facial feature extraction with an LSTM fusion network to preserve temporal coherence, and is deployed on a Vodafone-compatible AWS Wavelength edge cloud. Through extensive stress testing, we analyze end-to-end performance under varying network load and adaptive multimedia profiles. Results show that compute placement at the network edge is critical for meeting real-time coherence constraints, and that uplink capacity is often the dominant bottleneck for interactive AVSE services. Only 5G and wired Ethernet consistently satisfied the required communication delay bound for uncompressed audio-video chunks, while aggressive compression reduced payload sizes by up to 80% with negligible perceptual degradation, enabling robust operation under constrained conditions. We further demonstrate a fundamental trade-off between processing latency and enhancement quality, where reduced model complexity lowers delay but degrades reconstruction performance in low-SNR scenarios. Our findings indicate that public 5G edge environments can sustain real-time, interactive AVSE workloads when network and compute resources are carefully orchestrated, although performance margins remain tighter than in dedicated infrastructures. The architectural insights derived from this study provide practical guidelines for the design of delay-sensitive multimedia and perceptual enhancement services on emerging 5G edge-cloud platforms.

LLM-Aided Joint Secrecy Precoding and Trajectory for RSMA-Based Heterogeneous UAV Networks

This paper investigates secure communications in rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) enabled heterogeneous UAV networks, where multiple UAVs collaboratively serve ground terminals in the presence of eavesdroppers. By jointly considering secrecy rate maximization and propulsion energy consumption minimization, we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem involving UAV trajectory design, service association, power allocation, and secrecy precoding under mobility, collision-avoidance, service-capacity, and communication constraints. The formulated problem is highly non-convex due to the coupling among UAV trajectories, RSMA transmission variables, and secrecy constraints. To address the resulting non-convex and highly coupled optimization problem, we propose a hierarchical optimization framework. The inner layer uses a semidefinite relaxation (SDR)-based S2DC algorithm combining penalty functions and difference-of-convex (D.C.) programming to solve the secrecy precoding problem with fixed UAV positions. The outer layer introduces a Large Language Model (LLM)-guided heuristic multi-agent reinforcement learning approach (LLM-HeMARL) for trajectory optimization. LLM-HeMARL efficiently incorporates LLM-generated expert heuristic policy, enabling UAVs to learn energy-aware, security-driven trajectories without the inference overhead of real-time LLM calls. The simulation results show that our method outperforms existing baselines in secrecy rate and energy efficiency, with consistent robustness across varying UAV swarm sizes and random seeds.

ToDMA: Large Model-Driven Massive Token Communications for Semantic Multiple Access

Token communications (TokenCom) is an emerging generative semantic communication paradigm, where tokens serve as compact representation units across modalities. Their contextual dependencies can be exploited by pretrained large models for semantic recovery. In this paper, we propose token-domain multiple access (ToDMA), a large-model-driven semantic multiple access scheme for massive token communications. ToDMA integrates unsourced random access with context-aware token processing. It enables massive uncoordinated devices to transmit tokenized source representations over common uplink resources. Specifically, each token index is associated with a shared modulation codeword, exposing token-level structure to the receiver for context-aware recovery. At the receiver, compressed sensing is first employed to jointly detect active tokens and estimate their corresponding channel state information (CSI) from the superposed signals. The source token sequences are then reconstructed by exploiting the consistency of token-associated CSI across multiple token positions. In the presence of token collisions, some active tokens may remain unassigned, leading to missing entries in the reconstructed token sequences. To recover these tokens, candidate-restricted masked-token prediction is performed using pretrained contextual models, thereby leveraging token-level context to mitigate collision effects. Simulation results on both image and text transmission tasks demonstrate that ToDMA reduces access latency while maintaining favorable token recovery and semantic reconstruction quality, showing its scalability for semantic multiple access.
