UniVOE: A Removal-Driven Framework for Interaction-Aware Universal Video Object Editing

Video object removal and injection are reciprocal editing operations between object-present and object-absent video states, yet they differ substantially in training difficulty. Removal can be effectively bootstrapped from video inpainting and further adapted to erase object-related interaction effects. Injection, however, requires large-scale paired supervision to model object appearance, dynamics, and scene-dependent effects, while perfectly aligned real-world pairs are difficult to collect and synthetic data lacks sufficient realism and diversity. To address this challenge, we present UniVOE, a removal-driven framework for training both video object removal and injection models. We first train an effect-aware remover by transferring video inpainting priors and finetuning on object-present/object-absent pairs. The trained remover converts real object-present videos into object-absent counterparts, creating large-scale paired supervision for injection. An injection model is trained on these pairs in the reverse direction to recover objects together with their dynamics and interaction effects. Moreover, since pixel-level reconstruction alone cannot adequately capture perceptual realism, we introduce a reward-based post-training method that aligns injection results with human preferences using a proprietary reward model. Experiments against strong open-source and commercial systems demonstrate that UniVOE achieves state-of-the-art performance on both object removal and injection, particularly in challenging interaction-effect cases.

ALIVE: Interaction-Aligned Object Insertion for First-Frame-Guided Video Editing

Current video editors can insert objects but often struggle to make them participate in interactions such as being picked up or manipulated. We introduce ALIVE, a framework that makes inserted objects "alive" through coherent interactions with the source video's contents, using an edited first frame and an instruction naming only the added object. We curate 35,800 editing pairs combining 3D-rendered, model-generated, and real-world videos with general editing pairs from ROSE. Each pair differs in the target object's presence while preserving the surrounding action, teaching editors coordinated object behavior and source preservation. We further train a vision-language model (VLM) to predict interaction guidance from the same inputs. We introduce the ALIVE-interaction benchmark to assess interaction fidelity, source preservation, and visual coherence using a unified VLM-based protocol, and evaluate on the general video object insertion benchmark. Without VLM guidance, ALIVE improves Overall over the strongest evaluated baseline by 43.9% and 4.4% on the two benchmarks, respectively. VLM-predicted guidance further improves the ALIVE-interaction score by 0.95 points without additional user inputs.

Explicit Layer Modeling for Video Object Insertion and Video Layer Decomposition

Most video editing systems still lack explicit layered video representations, limiting realistic compositing, object reuse, and consistent manipulation. This limitation is particularly evident in video object insertion and video layer decomposition, where existing methods lack direct supervision for foreground layers that capture both objects and their associated visual effects. We introduce TriLayer, a triplet video dataset containing aligned composite--background--foreground videos, where the foreground layers include both object appearance and associated visual effects. With aligned triplet supervision, TriLayer enables explicit supervised learning of layered video representations for the first time. Building on this dataset, we propose DBL-Diffusion, a dual-branch diffusion framework that jointly models scene-level RGB content and RGBA foreground layers through cross-branch interaction during denoising. We instantiate the framework in two tasks: DBL-Insert for layered object insertion, which generates explicit RGBA layers for realistic compositing and flexible post-editing, and DBL-Decompose for video layer decomposition, which recovers foreground and background layers using triplet supervision. Experiments demonstrate that explicit layer modeling substantially improves both insertion fidelity and decomposition quality.

AlbedoEdit: Unified Instance-Level Video Editing with Albedo Guidance

Video generative models have achieved remarkable progress in synthesizing photorealistic video sequences. However, enabling broader and more creative downstream applications requires fine-grained instance-level video editing, including object insertion, object removal, and texture editing, which has emerged as a prominent yet challenging problem. Existing approaches either propose unified generative frameworks with only coarse semantic control, or design task-specific frameworks for individual editing tasks, limiting their flexibility and applicability across diverse real-world scenarios. To address these limitations, we propose AlbedoEdit, a unified generative video editing framework that jointly supports object insertion, object removal, and texture editing. Our key insight is that the intrinsic albedo map, which is invariant to lighting and contains no specularity, shadowing and inter-reflection effects, provides an effective and user-friendly mechanism for specifying fine-grained appearance edits. Built upon video foundation models, AlbedoEdit is fine-tuned to translate source RGB videos into edited RGB videos, conditioned on a user-edited first-frame albedo. Trained on a new paired synthetic dataset covering all three editing tasks, AlbedoEdit implicitly learns to harmonize edited contents and simulate complex real-world visual effects triggered by editing operations, including specular highlights, soft shadows, and mirror reflections. AlbedoEdit demonstrates superior performance over state-of-the-art video editing approaches, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Smart-Insertion-V: Photorealistic Video Insertion via a Closed-Loop Feedback Dual-Stream Framework

Mask-free video object insertion has emerged as a challenging task, requiring harmonious integration of reference objects into source videos. However, existing methods struggle when references exhibit severe stylistic domain gaps with the source scene. To overcome this, we propose Smart-Insertion-V, an end-to-end Dual-Stream framework that concurrently conducts video insertion and image style transfer. Within this framework, the image stream synchronously guides the video generation process, while a Closed-loop Feedback mechanism is further incorporated to ensure robust insertion. Inevitably, integrating these diverse conditioning signals results in feature entanglement and style leakage. To tackle this issue, we design Dual-World-View RoPE to distinguish different signals via spatial-temporal offsets without incurring heavy training overhead. Furthermore, to facilitate spatial grounding and stylistic adaptation, we introduce a Decoupled Guidance Module that leverages a Vision-Language Model for semantic reasoning while preserving original temporal guidance with native text encoder. To bridge data gap for harmonious reference insertion task, we propose a data curation pipeline and will release an open-source dataset. Experiments demonstrate that our method can insert objects into plausible positions while achieving the most harmonious results.

SimInsert: Seamless Video Object Insertion via Regional Sparse Attention Fusion

Video object insertion requires ensuring spatio-temporal coherence and interactive realism, extending far beyond simple content placement. However, current approaches are often hindered by a reliance on explicit motion engineering or resource-intensive retraining, restricting their flexibility and generalization. To bridge this gap, we present SimInsert, a training-free paradigm that efficiently decouples the task into intuitive single-frame editing and semantic motion description. By harnessing the robust generative priors of image-to-video diffusion models, SimInsert propagates edits temporally, strictly preserving background invariance while enabling plausible, text-driven interactions between the inserted object and the dynamic environment. Our approach hinges on non-invasive guidance mechanisms that enforce structural consistency, facilitate seamless boundary fusion, and counteract the fidelity drift that typically accumulates during the denoising trajectory. Extensive quantitative experiments validate our efficacy: SimInsert surpasses state-of-the-art methods with an 18.8% gain in PSNR, 20.1% in SSIM, and a 44.1% decrease in LPIPS, offering a streamlined solution for high-fidelity video editing.

Controllable Video Object Insertion via Multiview Priors

Video object insertion is a critical task for dynamically inserting new objects into existing environments. Previous video generation methods focus primarily on synthesizing entire scenes while struggling with ensuring consistent object appearance, spatial alignment, and temporal coherence when inserting objects into existing videos. In this paper, we propose a novel solution for Video Object Insertion, which integrates multi-view object priors to address the common challenges of appearance inconsistency and occlusion handling in dynamic environments. By lifting 2D reference images into multi-view representations and leveraging a dual-path view-consistent conditioning mechanism, our framework ensures stable identity guidance and robust integration across diverse viewpoints. A quality-aware weighting mechanism is also employed to adaptively handle noisy or imperfect inputs. Additionally, we introduce an Integration-Aware Consistency Module that guarantees spatial realism, effectively resolving occlusion and boundary artifacts while maintaining temporal continuity across frames. Experimental results show that our solution significantly improves the quality of video object insertion, providing stable and realistic integration.

EffectErase: Joint Video Object Removal and Insertion for High-Quality Effect Erasing

Video object removal aims to eliminate dynamic target objects and their visual effects, such as deformation, shadows, and reflections, while restoring seamless backgrounds. Recent diffusion-based video inpainting and object removal methods can remove the objects but often struggle to erase these effects and to synthesize coherent backgrounds. Beyond method limitations, progress is further hampered by the lack of a comprehensive dataset that systematically captures common object effects across varied environments for training and evaluation. To address this, we introduce VOR (Video Object Removal), a large-scale dataset that provides diverse paired videos, each consisting of one video where the target object is present with its effects and a counterpart where the object and effects are absent, with corresponding object masks. VOR contains 60K high-quality video pairs from captured and synthetic sources, covers five effects types, and spans a wide range of object categories as well as complex, dynamic multi-object scenes. Building on VOR, we propose EffectErase, an effect-aware video object removal method that treats video object insertion as the inverse auxiliary task within a reciprocal learning scheme. The model includes task-aware region guidance that focuses learning on affected areas and enables flexible task switching. Then, an insertion-removal consistency objective that encourages complementary behaviors and shared localization of effect regions and structural cues. Trained on VOR, EffectErase achieves superior performance in extensive experiments, delivering high-quality video object effect erasing across diverse scenarios.

Place-it-R1: Unlocking Environment-aware Reasoning Potential of MLLM for Video Object Insertion

Video object insertion is fundamental to video editing, yet existing diffusion methods often produce visually plausible but physically inconsistent results. We present Place-it-R1, an end-to-end framework for physically plausible video object insertion driven by environment-aware MLLM reasoning. Rather than treating reasoning as a generic text prompt, Place-it-R1 uses the MLLM to analyze the target environment, infer object-scene interactions, and determine where an insertion is physically valid. The resulting reasoning is translated into two complementary forms of guidance for video diffusion: semantic guidance that describes the intended physical interaction and spatial guidance that provides a valid insertion region in each frame. To further align generation with local physical realism, we introduce Spatial Direct Preference Optimization, which leverages an MLLM to rank generated candidates, and introduces a region-aware preference objective that explicitly localizes physical-violation penalties to the inserted-object region. Place-it-R1 further offers flexible and standard modes to trade off environment adaptation and scene preservation. Extensive experiments show that Place-it-R1 produces more physically coherent and visually natural insertions than state-of-the-art methods and achieves competitive results against commercial systems.

PISCO: Precise Video Instance Insertion with Sparse Control

The landscape of AI video generation is undergoing a pivotal shift: moving beyond general generation - which relies on exhaustive prompt-engineering and "cherry-picking" - towards fine-grained, controllable generation and high-fidelity post-processing. In professional AI-assisted filmmaking, it is crucial to perform precise, targeted modifications. A cornerstone of this transition is video instance insertion, which requires inserting a specific instance into existing footage while maintaining scene integrity. Unlike traditional video editing, this task demands several requirements: precise spatial-temporal placement, physically consistent scene interaction, and the faithful preservation of original dynamics - all achieved under minimal user effort. In this paper, we propose PISCO, a video diffusion model for precise video instance insertion with arbitrary sparse keyframe control. PISCO allows users to specify a single keyframe, start-and-end keyframes, or sparse keyframes at arbitrary timestamps, and automatically propagates object appearance, motion, and interaction. To address the severe distribution shift induced by sparse conditioning in pretrained video diffusion models, we introduce Variable-Information Guidance for robust conditioning and Distribution-Preserving Temporal Masking to stabilize temporal generation, together with geometry-aware conditioning for realistic scene adaptation. We further construct PISCO-Bench, a benchmark with verified instance annotations and paired clean background videos, and evaluate performance using both reference-based and reference-free perceptual metrics. Experiments demonstrate that PISCO consistently outperforms strong inpainting and video editing baselines under sparse control, and exhibits clear, monotonic performance improvements as additional control signals are provided. InsertAnywhere: Geometrically Grounded and Optics-Aware Video Object Insertion

Recent advances in diffusion models have enabled impressive video editing capabilities, yet production-grade Video Object Insertion (VOI) remains challenging due to inadequate 4D scene understanding and a lack of proper optical interactions, such as shadows and reflections. To address these limitations, we present InsertAnywhere, a comprehensive VOI framework that achieves geometrically grounded object placement and optics-aware video synthesis. Our approach first leverages a 4D-aware mask generation module that allows users to anchor an object's 3D pose in a single frame. The framework automatically propagates this placement across the video, accurately handling local scene dynamics and occlusions. To synthesize realistic physical lighting interactions, we introduce Optics-Aware Representation Alignment, a novel strategy that utilizes an extended mask to guide feature extraction, enabling optical effects to seamlessly extend beyond the inserted object's boundary. Finally, to overcome the lack of training data for such phenomena, we construct and open-source ROSE++, a specialized quadruplet dataset tailored for the supervised learning of optical effects. Extensive experiments demonstrate that InsertAnywhere produces geometrically plausible and photometrically realistic insertions in complex real-world scenarios, significantly outperforming existing research and commercial generative tools.
