Abstract

AI agents with advanced reasoning and tool-use capabilities have demonstrated impressive performance in web browsing for deep search. However, existing benchmarks such as BrowseComp primarily focus on textual content, overlooking the prevalence of multimodal content. To bridge this gap, we introduce MM-BrowseComp, a novel benchmark comprising 400 challenging, hand-crafted questions designed to evaluate multimodal retrieval and reasoning capabilities. Unlike prior work, MM-BrowseComp incorporates visual prompts and necessitates the extraction of key evidence from web images and videos to complete questions, rendering text-only approaches insufficient. Additionally, we provide a verified checklist for each question, enabling fine-grained analysis of multimodal dependencies and reasoning paths. Our comprehensive evaluation of 27 state-of-the-art models reveals that even leading models like GPT-5-High with tools achieve only 24.25% accuracy, highlighting the suboptimal multimodal browsing capabilities, establishing MM-BrowseComp as a rigorous new standard for the field.

UNIBROWSE: A Data-to-Agent Framework for Multimodal BrowseComp

Multimodal BrowseComp tasks require agents to combine perception, tool use, and long-horizon reasoning over dynamic web content, challenging their ability to handle compositional structure, open-world uncertainty, and multimodal integration across extended interactions. Crucially, real-world multimodal browsing involves three distinct information-flow patterns: text-only, image-to-text, and text-to-image, yet existing data construction methods cover only the text-only and image-to-text patterns, leaving text-to-image largely unaddressed and limiting agent generality and robustness. We introduce UNIBROWSE, a unified data pipeline that for the first time simultaneously generates training data covering all three patterns, augments curated knowledge graphs with live web retrieval for improved fidelity, and introduces a novel metric of exploration degree to filter low-signal instances for efficient reinforcement learning. Through this pipeline, we produce high-quality cold-start tool-use trajectories and exploration-rich QA pairs, and train a 35B-scale agent via supervised fine-tuning and exploration-aware RL.The resulting UNIBROWSE agent achieves state-of-the-art performance on multimodal BrowseComp benchmarks, attaining an average accuracy of 54.4 across five diverse benchmarks -- an improvement of 10.5 points over its base model Qwen3.5-35B-A3B -- and surpassing serveral closed-source agent workflows such as GPT-5 (42.9), Gemini-2.5 Pro (44.8), and Gemini-2.5 Flash (41.3).

MELLON - Multimodal Enhanced LLM for Online Navigation

Web navigation agents are capable of addressing various types of tasks on different websites. Current baselines on web navigation are either unimodal or lack strong reasoning abilities given multimodal inputs. Focusing on the WebShop benchmark, a real-world website simulation, we explore the alignment of text and images, as well as multimodal reasoning and planning abilities, to enhance the performance of web navigation agents. We propose three innovative multimodal enhancements: Multimodal Enhanced LLM for Online Navigation (MELLON), VQAgent, and Multimodal Ranker. MELLON demonstrates a significant improvement in task completion accuracy, with a 9.26% increase after just one epoch of training. Our findings suggest the necessity of further exploration into multimodal approaches, with a focus on more extensive training and alignment strategies to enhance the effectiveness of web navigation agents.

Visual-Seeker: Towards Visual-Native Multimodal Agentic Search via Active Visual Reasoning

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in many visual tasks, but they often struggle with factual grounding when confronted with complex, open-world scenarios. While recent multimodal deep search agents attempt to address this issue by utilizing external tools, the visual-native search paradigm remains underexplored. Existing methods primarily rely on simple images with explicit semantics and text-only evidence trajectories, limiting the agent's ability to perform multi-hop, cross-modal reasoning and search. To address these limitations, we propose Visual-Seeker, a visual-native multimodal deep search agent via active visual reasoning. Rather than treating vision as a static input, our agent actively attends to fine-grained visual details, dynamically harvests visual evidence throughout the search process. To unlock its visual-native potential, we design an active visual reasoning data pipeline and synthesize 5K high-quality multimodal trajectories for model training. Extensive experiments demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance across five challenging multimodal search benchmarks, even surpassing several proprietary models, validating robust visual-native reasoning and search in real-world web environments.
