Abstract

We introduce VietSuperSpeech, a large-scale Vietnamese automatic speech recognition (ASR) dataset of 52,023 audio-text pairs totaling 267.39 hours, with a distinctive focus on casual conversational speech. Unlike existing Vietnamese ASR corpora that predominantly feature read speech, news narration, or audiobook content, VietSuperSpeech is sourced from four publicly accessible YouTube channels spanning everyday conversation, personal vlogging, overseas Vietnamese community dialogue, and informal commentary - the very speech styles encountered in real-world chatbot, customer support, call center, and hotline deployments. All audio is standardized to 16 kHz mono PCM WAV and segmented into 3-30 second utterances. Transcriptions are generated via pseudo-labeling using the Zipformer-30M-RNNT-6000h model (Nguyen, 2025) deployed through Sherpa-ONNX, pre-trained on 6,000 hours of Vietnamese speech. After quality filtering, the dataset is split into 46,822 training samples (240.67 hours) and 5,201 development/test samples (26.72 hours) with a fixed random seed. The text averages 266 characters per utterance, totaling 13.8 million fully diacritically marked Vietnamese characters. We demonstrate that VietSuperSpeech fills a critical gap in the Vietnamese ASR ecosystem: while corpora such as VLSP2020, VIET_BUD500, VietSpeech, FLEURS, VietMed, Sub-GigaSpeech2-Vi, viVoice, and Sub-PhoAudioBook provide broad coverage of formal and read speech, none specifically targets the casual, spontaneous register indispensable for conversational AI applications. VietSuperSpeech is publicly released at https://huggingface.co/datasets/thanhnew2001/VietSuperSpeech.

VieSpeaker: A Large-Scale Vietnamese Speaker Recognition Dataset Beyond Visual Dependency

Speaker recognition has advanced rapidly with large-scale training datasets, yet Vietnamese remains under-resourced, with existing corpora limited in scale and acoustic diversity. Most large-scale datasets rely on facial cues to link speech with speaker identities, restricting data collection to recordings where speakers appear on camera. We propose a face-independent dataset construction pipeline and introduce VieSpeaker, a large-scale Vietnamese speaker recognition dataset. Our approach leverages textual metadata and large language model reasoning to infer speaker identities from transcripts and contextual information. VieSpeaker contains approximately 902 hours of speech from 4,715 speakers. Experiments show that models trained on VieSpeaker achieve improved robustness and generalization compared to existing Vietnamese datasets. This work demonstrates the feasibility of face-independent dataset construction and provides a new direction for building large-scale speech resources.

VietPrism: A large-scale Vietnamese speech and deepfake corpus with diverse dialects and code-switching

Vietnamese speech research is constrained by resources that isolate automatic speech recognition from speaker, dialect, code-switching, and deepfake analysis. We introduce VietPrism, an open, multi-domain corpus that brings these dimensions together at scale: 993.4 hours and 403,941 bona fide utterances from 1,262 verified speakers across 8,388 real-world videos. To our knowledge, it is the first large-scale Vietnamese corpus to jointly provide transcripts, consistent speaker identities, five dialect groups, and naturally occurring Vietnamese--English code-switching, which constitutes nearly half of the corpus by duration. We further create over 3.1K hours of spoof speech with four open-source and commercial synthesis systems. Every spoof is conditioned on a verified speaker reference and paired with a transcript- and speaker-matched bona fide utterance, enabling unique controlled evaluation with reduced lexical and identity confounds. Zero-shot evaluation of five pretrained multilingual detectors reveals striking brittleness: EER greatly varies across detector--generator pairings, while recent multilingual detector DFA-1B degrades from 16.3% to 33.6% as speaker similarity increases. Dialect-stratified results expose further model-dependent disparities. By unifying natural linguistic diversity with controlled spoof generation, VietPrism provides a challenging foundation for Vietnamese speech modeling and trustworthy audio-deepfake detection.

Vietnamese Automatic Speech Recognition: A Revisit

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) performance is heavily dependent on the availability of large-scale, high-quality datasets. For low-resource languages, existing open-source ASR datasets often suffer from insufficient quality and inconsistent annotation, hindering the development of robust models. To address these challenges, we propose a novel and generalizable data aggregation and preprocessing pipeline designed to construct high-quality ASR datasets from diverse, potentially noisy, open-source sources. Our pipeline incorporates rigorous processing steps to ensure data diversity, balance, and the inclusion of crucial features like word-level timestamps. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our methodology by applying it to Vietnamese, resulting in a unified, high-quality 500-hour dataset that provides a foundation for training and evaluating state-of-the-art Vietnamese ASR systems.
