Abstract

Multi-view visual reasoning is essential for intelligent systems that must understand complex environments from sparse and discrete viewpoints, yet existing research has largely focused on single-image or temporally dense video settings. In real-world scenarios, reasoning across views requires integrating partial observations without explicit guidance, while collecting large-scale multi-view data with accurate geometric and semantic annotations remains challenging. To address this gap, we leverage physically grounded simulation to construct diverse, high-fidelity 3D scenes with precise per-view metadata, enabling scalable data generation that remains transferable to real-world settings. Based on this engine, we introduce VIEW2SPACE, a multi-dimensional benchmark for sparse multi-view reasoning, together with a scalable, disjoint training split supporting millions of grounded question-answer pairs. Using this benchmark, a comprehensive evaluation of state-of-the-art vision-language and spatial models reveals that multi-view reasoning remains largely unsolved, with most models performing only marginally above random guessing. We further investigate whether training can bridge this gap. Our proposed Grounded Chain-of-Thought with Visual Evidence substantially improves performance under moderate difficulty, and generalizes to real-world data, outperforming existing approaches in cross-dataset evaluation. We further conduct difficulty-aware scaling analyses across model size, data scale, reasoning depth, and visibility constraints, indicating that while geometric perception can benefit from scaling under sufficient visibility, deep compositional reasoning across sparse views remains a fundamental challenge.

Seek-and-View Reasoning for Multi-View Spatial Understanding

Existing approaches to multi-view spatial reasoning operate largely on sparse input views. Vision-language models (VLMs) are thus restricted to understand a scene and infer spatial relations within these fixed views, leading to fragile cross-view alignment and geometry-to-language bottleneck. To address these issues, we formulate a novel Seek-and-View reasoning approach to find implicit cross-view spatial evidence by locating a question-relevant view to support the spatial reasoning. To realize this approach, we propose Vantage, a training-free model-agnostic reasoning framework that pairs a VLM with a 3D foundation model: a viewpoint-grounded reasoning stage for question analysis and view planning, followed by a geometry-grounded evidence augmentation stage to effectively synthesize and incorporate visual evidence into the final reasoning. Comprehensive experiments on six VLMs demonstrate consistent improvements on five benchmarks without fine-tuning. Overall, by revealing spatial evidence through view-grounded reasoning, Vantage can largely reduce reliance on language-based cross-view alignment and improve multi-view spatial understanding. SpatialMosaic: A Multiview VLM Dataset for Partial Visibility

Recent progress in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) has enabled 3D scene understanding and spatial reasoning directly from multi-view images, without requiring explicit 3D reconstructions. Nevertheless, key challenges that frequently arise in real-world environments, such as partial visibility, occlusion, and low-overlap conditions that require reasoning from fragmented visual cues, remain under-explored. To address these limitations, we propose a scalable multi-view data generation and annotation pipeline that constructs realistic spatial reasoning QAs, resulting in SpatialMosaic, a comprehensive instruction-tuning dataset with 2M QA pairs. We further introduce SpatialMosaic-Bench, a challenging benchmark for evaluating multi-view spatial reasoning under complex and diverse scenarios, consisting of 1M QA pairs across 11 tasks with both multiple-choice and numerical-answer formats. Our dataset spans both indoor and outdoor scenes, enabling comprehensive evaluation across diverse real-world scenarios. In addition, we provide a practical baseline for multi-view settings by integrating geometry encoders into VLMs for improved cross-view consistency and spatial grounding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our dataset effectively enhances spatial reasoning under challenging multi-view conditions, validating the effectiveness of our data generation pipeline in constructing realistic and challenging QAs.

MV-STRIDE: Enabling MLLMs to Master Multi-View Spatial Reasoning via Hierarchical Capability Modeling

Despite the rapid progress of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) in 2D vision-language tasks, robust multi-view spatial reasoning remains a fundamental bottleneck due to the lack of structured 3D cognitive pathways in existing datasets. To address this, we introduce MV-STRIDE, a Multi-View hierarchical SpaTial Reasoning dataset with Interdependent and DEcomposed capabilitiEs. Moving beyond flat data structures, MV-STRIDE explicitly models the dependency relationships between foundational perception, scene understanding, and complex contextual reasoning, providing a coherent learning pathway aligned with human spatial cognition. We develop a systematic QA generation pipeline leveraging diverse 3D scene sources that enforces cross-view dependency constraints to prevent single-view solvability, generating multi-level spatial reasoning tasks supported by cognitively grounded chain-of-thought supervision for complex inference. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that our multi-stage training framework based on our hierarchical dataset achieves state-of-the-art performance across multiple spatial reasoning benchmarks, notably the multi-view oriented MMSI-Bench. Our approach enables MLLMs to maintain robust, 3D-consistent spatial reasoning across diverse viewpoints. The code and dataset are available at https://co1dspring.github.io/MV-STRIDE/.
