Abstract

Visuotactile sensors are indispensable for contact-rich robotic manipulation tasks. However, policy learning with tactile feedback in simulation, especially for online reinforcement learning (RL), remains a critical challenge, as it demands a delicate balance between physics fidelity and computational efficiency. To address this challenge, we present Tac2Real, a lightweight visuotactile simulation framework designed to enable efficient online RL training. Tac2Real integrates the Preconditioned Nonlinear Conjugate Gradient Incremental Potential Contact (PNCG-IPC) method with a multi-node, multi-GPU high-throughput parallel simulation architecture, which can generate marker displacement fields at interactive rates. Meanwhile, we propose a systematic approach, TacAlign, to narrow both structured and stochastic sources of domain gap, ensuring a reliable zero-shot sim-to-real transfer. We further evaluate Tac2Real on the contact-rich peg insertion task. The zero-shot transfer results achieve a high success rate in the real-world scenario, verifying the effectiveness and robustness of our framework. TacCoRL: Integrating Tactile Feedback into VLA via Simulation

Vision-language-action (VLA) models provide strong visual, language, and action priors for robot manipulation, but visual observations alone often miss the local contact state required for contact-rich tasks. We present TacCoRL, a scalable framework that injects Tactile feedback into VLA policies and improves them through sim-real Co-training and simulation-based reinforcement learning (RL), without requiring large-scale tactile pretraining or extensive real-world contact exploration. The key idea is not only adding touch as an input, but learning how contact readings should modulate action responses in near-failure states that are rare in demonstrations and risky to collect on hardware. We use a real-aligned simulator as a closed-loop training environment for contact interaction. Mixed simulated and real trajectories first warm-start tactile-conditioned actions in the pretrained policy. Reinforcement learning with verifiable task rewards then optimizes the policy using simulated contact rollouts. It reinforces tactile-conditioned actions that lead to task completion, while a supervised objective on real trajectories keeps the refined policy anchored to deployment visual, tactile, and action distributions. The resulting policy transfers directly to the real robot without privileged simulation state or online real-world RL. Across four bimanual contact-rich tasks, the final visuo-tactile policy achieves an average success rate of 72.5%, compared to baseline of 50.0%. Tacmap: Bridging the Tactile Sim-to-Real Gap via Geometry-Consistent Penetration Depth Map

Vision-Based Tactile Sensors (VBTS) are essential for achieving dexterous robotic manipulation, yet the tactile sim-to-real gap remains a fundamental bottleneck. Current tactile simulations suffer from a persistent dilemma: simplified geometric projections lack physical authenticity, while high-fidelity Finite Element Methods (FEM) are too computationally prohibitive for large-scale reinforcement learning. In this work, we present Tacmap, a high-fidelity, computationally efficient tactile simulation framework anchored in volumetric penetration depth. Our key insight is to bridge the tactile sim-to-real gap by unifying both domains through a shared deform map representation. Specifically, we compute 3D intersection volumes as depth maps in simulation, while in the real world, we employ an automated data-collection rig to learn a robust mapping from raw tactile images to ground-truth depth maps. By aligning simulation and real-world in this unified geometric space, Tacmap minimizes domain shift while maintaining physical consistency. Quantitative evaluations across diverse contact scenarios demonstrate that Tacmap's deform maps closely mirror real-world measurements. Moreover, we validate the utility of Tacmap through an in-hand rotation task, where a policy trained exclusively in simulation achieves zero-shot transfer to a physical robot.

OmniTacTune: Policy-Agnostic Real-World RL for Tactile Residual Adaptation of Visual Policies

Visual policies learned from human videos, teleoperation, and robot demonstrations offer scalable motion priors, but often fail in contact-rich manipulation, where success significantly depends on local force and contact geometry. Tactile sensing provides these complementary signals, yet tactile data remain costly to collect and hard to generalize across sensors, robots, and tasks. We introduce OmniTacTune, a policy-agnostic real-world RL pipeline that adapts tactile feedback to pretrained visual policies through residual correction. OmniTacTune uses a two-stage design: it first bootstraps tactile-aware learning from autonomous base-policy rollouts, then learns a lightweight tactile residual policy through online interaction. Extensive experiments show that OmniTacTune generalizes across diverse contact-rich tasks, visual base policies, and tactile representations. Across four real-world contact-rich tasks, it improves visual base policies from 5-40% success to 85-100% within 40-80 minutes, demonstrating an efficient path for adapting tactile feedback to scalable visual robot policies.
