Abstract

Storyboarding is a core skill in visual storytelling for film, animation, and games. However, automating this process requires a system to achieve two properties that current approaches rarely satisfy simultaneously: inter-shot consistency and explicit editability. While 2D diffusion-based generators produce vivid imagery, they often suffer from identity drift along with limited geometric control; conversely, traditional 3D animation workflows are consistent and editable but require expert-heavy, labor-intensive authoring. We present StoryBlender, a grounded 3D storyboard generation framework governed by a Story-centric Reflection Scheme. At its core, we propose the StoryBlender system, which is built on a three-stage pipeline: (1) Semantic-Spatial Grounding, to construct a continuity memory graph to decouple global assets from shot-specific variables for long-horizon consistency; (2) Canonical Asset Materialization, to instantiate entities in a unified coordinate space to maintain visual identity; and (3) Spatial-Temporal Dynamics, to achieve layout design and cinematic evolution through visual metrics. By orchestrating multiple agents in a hierarchical manner within a verification loop, StoryBlender iteratively self-corrects spatial hallucinations via engine-verified feedback. The resulting native 3D scenes support direct, precise editing of cameras and visual assets while preserving unwavering multi-shot continuity. Experiments demonstrate that StoryBlender significantly improves consistency and editability over both diffusion-based and 3D-grounded baselines. DreamShot: Personalized Storyboard Synthesis with Video Diffusion Prior

Storyboard synthesis plays a crucial role in visual storytelling, aiming to generate coherent shot sequences that visually narrate cinematic events with consistent characters, scenes, and transitions. However, existing approaches are mostly adapted from text-to-image diffusion models, which struggle to maintain long-range temporal coherence, consistent character identities, and narrative flow across multiple shots. In this paper, we introduce DreamShot, a video generative model based storyboard framework that fully exploits powerful video diffusion priors for controllable multi-shot synthesis. DreamShot supports both Text-to-Shot and Reference-to-Shot generation, as well as story continuation conditioned on previous frames, enabling flexible and context-aware storyboard generation. By leveraging the spatial-temporal consistency inherent in video generative models, DreamShot produces visually and semantically coherent sequences with improved narrative fidelity and character continuity. Furthermore, DreamShot incorporates a multi-reference role conditioning module that accepts multiple character reference images and enforces identity alignment via a Role-Attention Consistency Loss, explicitly constraining attention between reference and generated roles. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DreamShot achieves superior scene coherence, role consistency, and generation efficiency compared to state-of-the-art text-to-image storyboard models, establishing a new direction toward controllable video model-driven visual storytelling.

S2ED: From Story to Executable Descriptions for Consistency-Aware Story Illustration

Multi-frame story illustration requires long-horizon coherence beyond single-image text-to-image generation, including narrative decomposition and persistent character identity, layout, and affect across frames. We propose Story-to-Executable Descriptions (S2ED), a training-free, model-agnostic, prompt-layer framework that converts a full story into a sequence of explicit, editable executable descriptions for more consistent rendering. S2ED coordinates three agents to segment the narrative, ground canonical character attributes, and enrich spatial and affective cues, enabling interpretable prompt-carried state propagation and local edits to repair drift without retraining the generator. Experiments on Flintstones and Shakoo Maku show that S2ED improves sequence-level consistency and character fidelity over strong prompting, large-model planning, and a reference training-based method, under both automatic metrics and human judgments. We also deploy S2ED in an end-to-end story-to-storybook system for children's illustrated stories, with a supplementary video.

StoryEngine: A State-Grounded Agentic Framework for Video Storytelling

Despite recent progress in agentic multi-shot video generation, producing coherent and consistent long-form stories remains challenging. Existing agentic pipelines typically rely on textual shot plans or previously generated pixels, yet lack an explicit mechanism for propagating the consequences of story events and maintaining the video world state across shots. As a result, missing visual details may be reconstructed inaccurately, while visual drift may propagate across subsequent shots, undermining both narrative coherence and visual consistency. To address these challenges, we propose StoryEngine, a state-grounded agentic framework for video storytelling. StoryEngine establishes a separation between authoritative semantic plans and unreliable visual observations. Specifically, StoryEngine maintains a structured representation of entity placement and story-relevant states, and propagates event-induced changes to define the intended start and end states of each shot. To visually realize these states, StoryEngine constructs canonical references for recurring entities and environments, and compiles state and visual constraints into executable render plans. Meanwhile, to realize these states correctly, a bounded evaluation-guided repair loop further corrects local state inconsistencies. Together, these mechanisms preserve causal story progression and prevent local visual errors from propagating across shots. To comprehensively evaluate long-form storytelling, we construct a benchmark across diverse scenarios and visual styles, with metrics assessing storytelling quality, narrative coherence, and visual consistency. Experimental results demonstrate that StoryEngine consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods across all evaluation dimensions, validating its effectiveness for coherent and consistent video storytelling.
