Abstract

Temporal human action detection aims to identify and localize action segments within untrimmed videos, serving as a pivotal task in video understanding. Despite the progress achieved by prior architectures like CNN and Transformer models, these continue to struggle with feature redundancy and degraded global dependency modeling capabilities when applied to long video sequences. These limitations severely constrain their scalability in real-world video analysis. State Space Models (SSMs) offer a promising alternative with linear long-term modeling and robust global temporal reasoning capabilities. Rethinking the application of SSMs in temporal modeling, this research constructs a novel framework for video human action detection. Specifically, we introduce the Efficient Spatial-Temporal Focal (ESTF) Adapter into the pre-trained layers. This module integrates the advantages of our proposed Temporal Boundary-aware SSM(TB-SSM) for temporal feature modeling with efficient processing of spatial features. We perform comprehensive and quantitative analyses across multiple benchmarks, comparing our proposed method against previous SSM-based and other structural methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our improved strategy significantly enhances both localization performance and robustness, validating the effectiveness of our proposed method.

TubeLite: Lightweight Multi-Actor Spatio-Temporal Action Detection

Spatio-temporal action detection in videos requires jointly localizing actors in space and identifying action boundaries over time. A common challenge is constructing temporally stable action tubes, as frame-level detectors often suffer from jitter, fragmentation, and imprecise temporal localization. Many recent approaches address this by introducing heavy spatio-temporal transformers or optical-flow-based pipelines, leading to high computational cost and limited scalability. We propose TubeLite, a lightweight framework for spatio-temporal action detection that focuses on stable tube construction and boundary-aware temporal modeling. TubeLite represents each actor as a tube, defined as a sequence of bounding boxes associated with a single actor over time, and explicitly enforces temporal consistency at both the spatial and semantic levels. The method combines low-jitter actor detection, Gaussian-weighted actor feature extraction, efficient short-term temporal propagation, and a boundary-focused temporal prediction head, while avoiding optical flow and large-scale temporal attention. Despite its compact design, TubeLite achieves strong video-level localization performance. It improves [email protected] by 4.5 and 7.1 percentage points over the best compared method on the MultiSports and UCF101-24 datasets, respectively, with substantially fewer parameters and floating-point operations than transformer-based alternatives, demonstrating that effective spatio-temporal action detection can be obtained through principled, lightweight temporal modeling.

Multi-Scale Latent Temporal Compression Attention and Video-Text Cross Attention Fusion for Video Action Detection

In video action detection, modeling the temporal dependencies in continuous video streams is crucial. Previous methods based on deep neural networks can perform frame-level video recognition tasks. However, these methods struggle to model dynamic temporal patterns, facing challenges such as redundant frame information, difficulty balancing global and local features, and insufficient fusion of visual and textual features. To address these issues, we propose a video temporal attention module based on the Multi-Scale Latent Temporal Compression Attention, which aggregates continuous temporal sequences into feature representations across diverse temporal scales while efficiently reducing redundancy. We also introduce a Video-Text Cross Attention Fusion module that leverages cross-attention at both latent and standard feature levels, achieving fine-grained fusion between video and textual features to enhance semantic alignment and feature interaction. Experimental results across multiple video recognition benchmarks demonstrate that our proposed methods achieve superior performance compared to existing methods, validating the effectiveness and generalization capability.

DeformTrace: A Deformable State Space Model with Relay Tokens for Temporal Forgery Localization

Temporal Forgery Localization (TFL) aims to precisely identify manipulated segments in video and audio, offering strong interpretability for security and forensics. While recent State Space Models (SSMs) show promise in precise temporal reasoning, their use in TFL is hindered by ambiguous boundaries, sparse forgeries, and limited long-range modeling. We propose DeformTrace, which enhances SSMs with deformable dynamics and relay mechanisms to address these challenges. Specifically, Deformable Self-SSM (DS-SSM) introduces dynamic receptive fields into SSMs for precise temporal localization. To further enhance its capacity for temporal reasoning and mitigate long-range decay, a Relay Token Mechanism is integrated into DS-SSM. Besides, Deformable Cross-SSM (DC-SSM) partitions the global state space into query-specific subspaces, reducing non-forgery information accumulation and boosting sensitivity to sparse forgeries. These components are integrated into a hybrid architecture that combines the global modeling of Transformers with the efficiency of SSMs. Extensive experiments show that DeformTrace achieves state-of-the-art performance with fewer parameters, faster inference, and stronger robustness.
