Abstract

Novel view synthesis from sparse-view inputs poses a significant challenge in 3D computer vision, particularly for achieving high-quality scene reconstructions with limited viewpoints. We introduce TWINGS, a framework that enhances 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) by directly addressing point sparsity. We employ Thin Plate Splines (TPS), a smooth non-rigid deformation model that minimizes bending energy to estimate a globally coherent warp from control-point correspondences, to align backprojected points from estimated depth with triangulated 3D control points, yielding calibrated backprojected points. By sampling these calibrated points near the control points, TWINGS provides a fast and geometrically accurate initialization for 3DGS, ultimately improving structural detail preservation and color fidelity in reconstructed scenes. Extensive experiments on DTU, LLFF, and Mip-NeRF360 demonstrate that TWINGS consistently outperforms existing methods, delivering detailed and accurate reconstructions under sparse-view scenarios.

SparseGS: Sparse View Synthesis using 3D Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has recently enabled real-time rendering of unbounded 3D scenes for novel view synthesis. However, this technique requires dense training views to accurately reconstruct 3D geometry. A limited number of input views will significantly degrade reconstruction quality, resulting in artifacts such as "floaters" and "background collapse" at unseen viewpoints. In this work, we introduce SparseGS, an efficient training pipeline designed to address the limitations of 3DGS in scenarios with sparse training views. SparseGS incorporates depth priors, novel depth rendering techniques, and a pruning heuristic to mitigate floater artifacts, alongside an Unseen Viewpoint Regularization module to alleviate background collapses. Our extensive evaluations on the Mip-NeRF360, LLFF, and DTU datasets demonstrate that SparseGS achieves high-quality reconstruction in both unbounded and forward-facing scenarios, with as few as 12 and 3 input images, respectively, while maintaining fast training and real-time rendering capabilities.

SPFSplatV2: Efficient Self-Supervised Pose-Free 3D Gaussian Splatting from Sparse Views

We introduce SPFSplatV2, an efficient feed-forward framework for 3D Gaussian splatting from sparse multi-view images, requiring no ground-truth poses during training or inference. The framework employs a shared feature extraction backbone to jointly predict 3D Gaussian primitives and camera poses in a canonical space from unposed inputs. To enable efficient and accurate pose estimation, we introduce a masked attention mechanism for target-view pose prediction and a reprojection loss that enforces pixel-aligned Gaussian primitives, providing stronger geometric constraints. We further demonstrate the compatibility of our training framework with different reconstruction architectures, resulting in two model variants. Remarkably, despite the absence of pose supervision, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both in-domain and out-of-domain novel view synthesis, even under extreme viewpoint changes and limited image overlap. It also surpasses many methods that rely on geometric supervision in relative pose estimation. By eliminating dependence on ground-truth poses, our method offers the scalability to leverage larger and more diverse datasets. Fast 3D Foundation Model Initialized Gaussian Splatting

This paper introduces a fast method for high-quality 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) reconstruction without traditional Structure-from-Motion (SfM). The proposed approach leverages 3D Foundation Models (3DFMs) for camera pose and point-cloud initialization, then jointly optimizes both camera poses and Gaussian primitives using a depth-guided loss function. This enables fast convergence even from rough initialization with as few as 50-60 input views. To further improve reconstruction quality in sparse-view scenarios, an MLP-based pose refinement module is introduced alongside depth-guided supervision from the foundation model. Extensive experiments on Mip-NeRF 360, Tanks and Temples, and RobustNeRF demonstrate that the proposed method achieves competitive reconstruction quality (23.61 dB PSNR, 0.19 LPIPS) while reducing training time to approximately three minutes per scene. The proposed method produces ready-to-use 3DGS models at a fraction of the time required by existing pipelines, making it suitable for near real-time applications in robotics, VR, and autonomous navigation.
