Abstract

Recent vision-language model (VLM)-based approaches have achieved impressive results on image vectorization tasks. However, they are typically evaluated on synthetic benchmarks, where clean SVGs are rasterized at high resolution and then re-vectorized. As a result, these methods generalize poorly to real-world scenarios, such as images with unknown rasterization methods or those generated by text-to-image models. We introduce VectorArk, a new VLM-based model designed for robust and practical image vectorization. VectorArk employs a novel rounded polygon representation that simplifies the learning process while naturally producing smooth, visually appealing primitives. We also propose a degradation model that enhances robustness across diverse and imperfect inputs. Our experiments show that, in contrast to previous methods, VectorArk achieves superior geometric completeness and artifact suppression across multiple datasets, with comprehensive ablations validating the contribution of each component.

VectorGym: A Multi-Task Benchmark for SVG Code Generation, Sketching and Editing

We introduce VectorGym, a comprehensive benchmark suite for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) that spans generation from text and sketches, complex editing, and visual understanding. VectorGym addresses the lack of realistic, challenging benchmarks aligned with professional design workflows. Our benchmark comprises four tasks with expert human-authored annotations: the novel Sketch2SVG task (VG-Sketch); a new SVG editing dataset (VG-Edit) featuring complex, multi-step edits with higher-order primitives; Text2SVG generation (VG-Text); and SVG captioning (VG-Cap). Unlike prior benchmarks that rely on synthetic edits, VectorGym provides gold-standard human annotations that require semantic understanding and design intent. We also provide a multi-task reinforcement learning baseline that jointly optimizes across all four tasks using rendering-based rewards. This baseline, built on GRPO with curriculum learning, trains a Qwen3-VL 8B model that achieves state-of-the-art performance among open-source models, surpassing much larger models including Qwen3-VL 235B and matching GPT-4o. We also introduce a VLM-as-a-Judge metric for SVG generation, validated through human correlation studies. Our evaluation of frontier VLMs reveals significant performance gaps, positioning VectorGym as a rigorous framework for advancing visual code generation.

Vector Scaffolding: Inter-Scale Orchestration for Differentiable Image Vectorization

Differentiable vector graphics have enabled powerful gradient-based optimization of vector primitives directly from raster images. However, existing frameworks formulate this as a flat optimization problem, forcing hundreds to thousands of randomly initialized curves to blindly compete for pixel-level error reduction. This disordered optimization leads to topology collapse, where macroscopic structures are distorted by internal high-frequency noise, resulting in a redundant and uneditable "polygon soup" that limits practical editability. To address this limitation, we propose Vector Scaffolding, a novel hierarchical optimization framework that shifts from flat pixel-matching to structured topological construction tailored for vector graphics. By identifying a key cause of topology collapse as the mathematical imbalance between area and boundary gradients, we introduce Interior Gradient Aggregation to stabilize the learning dynamics of multi-scale curve mixtures. Upon this stabilized landscape, we employ Progressive Stratification and Rapid Inflation Scheduling to progressively densify vector primitives with extremely high learning rates (×50\times 50). Experiments demonstrate that our approach accelerates optimization by 2.5×2.5\times while simultaneously improving PSNR by up to 1.4 dB over the previous state of the art.

Vector Map as Language: Toward Unified Remote Sensing Vector Mapping

Remote sensing vector mapping aims to generate structured maps of geospatial entities, such as buildings, roads, and water bodies, from remote sensing imagery. In practice, vector maps usually contain multiple category layers and heterogeneous entity structures, requiring a unified model for diverse mapping needs. However, existing methods typically represent vector objects as polygons or graphs, making them suitable only for specific categories: polygons poorly capture topological relations, while graphs often blur instance boundaries. We observe that language, as a natural medium for human communication, offers a flexible and expressive representation that can accommodate heterogeneous map elements, including geometry, semantics, and topolog. Motivated by this insight, we propose Vector Map as Language (VecLang), a unified paradigm that reformulates multiclass vector mapping as structured text generation. VecLang encodes the common elements of different geospatial entities into a GeoJSON-like vector language, enabling cross-category modeling within a shared textual format. To generate this language reliably, we design a progressive vision-language mapping framework that first localizes vectorization units and then generates structured map elements. We further introduce Hierarchical Vector Language Optimization, which uses reinforcement learning to improve syntax validity, content fidelity, and map executability. We also build VecMap-Bench with 54K images and 800K instances, supporting training and evaluation across standard and generalization settings. Extensive experiments demonstrate that VecLang handles both single-class and multiclass vector mapping while achieving strong cross-dataset and open-vocabulary generalization.
