Abstract

Building upon the SAM2 vision foundation model for downstream segmentation, this study introduces Boundary Enhanced Depth (BED)-SAM2. The SAM2 Hiera encoder architecture is modified to directly encode monocular depth information from RGB images, thereby providing geometric cues that enhance object boundary delineation and facilitate the extraction of camouflaged object shapes. BED-SAM2 demonstrates competitive state-of-the-art performance across multiple salient and camouflaged object detection tasks with as few as five training epochs.

Weakly Supervised Camouflaged Object Detection Based on the SAM Model and Mask Guidance

Camouflaged object detection (COD) from a single image is a challenging task due to the high similarity between objects and their surroundings. Existing fully supervised methods require labor-intensive pixel-level annotations, making weakly supervised methods a viable compromise that balances accuracy and annotation efficiency. However, weakly supervised methods often experience performance degradation due to the use of coarse annotations. In this paper, we introduce a new weakly supervised approach for camouflaged object detection to overcome these limitations. Specifically, we propose a novel network, MGNet, which tackles edge ambiguity and missed detections by utilizing initial masks generated by our custom-designed Cascaded Mask Decoder (CMD) to guide the segmentation process and enhance edge predictions. We introduce a Context Enhancement Module(CEM) to reduce the missing detection, and a Mask-guided Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) for effective feature aggregation. For the weak supervision challenge, we propose BoxSAM, which leverages the Segment Anything Model (SAM) with bounding-box prompts to generate pseudo-labels. By employing a redundant processing strategy, high quality pixel-level pseudo-labels are provided for training MGNet. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method delivers competitive performance against current state-of-the-art methods.

M^4-SAM: Multi-Modal Mixture-of-Experts with Memory-Augmented SAM for RGB-D Video Salient Object Detection

The Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2) has emerged as a foundation model for universal segmentation. Owing to its generalizable visual representations, SAM2 has been successfully applied to various downstream tasks. However, extending SAM2 to the RGB-D video salient object detection (RGB-D VSOD) task encounters three challenges including limited spatial modeling of linear LoRA, insufficient employment of SAM's multi-scale features, and dependence of initialization on explicit prompts. To address the issues, we present Multi-Modal Mixture-of-Experts with Memory-Augmented SAM (M4^4-SAM), which equips SAM2 with modality-related PEFT, hierarchical feature fusion, and prompt-free memory initialization. Firstly, we inject Modality-Aware MoE-LORA, which employs convolutional experts to encode local spatial priors and introduces a modality dispatcher for efficient multi-modal fine-tuning, into SAM2's encoder. Secondly, we deploy Gated Multi-Level Feature Fusion, which hierarchically aggregates multi-scale encoder features with an adaptive gating mechanism, to balance spatial details and semantic context. Finally, to conduct zero-shot VSOD without manual prompts, we utilize a Pseudo-Guided Initialization, where a coarse mask is regarded as a pseudo prior and used to bootstrap the memory bank. Extensive experiments demonstrate that M4^4-SAM achieves the state-of-the-art performance across all evaluation metrics on three public RGB-D VSOD datasets.

Exploring Boundary-Aware Spatial-Frequency Fusion for Camouflaged Object Detection

Camouflaged Object Detection is challenging due to the high degree of similarity between camouflaged objects and their surrounding backgrounds. Current COD methods mainly rely on edge extraction in the spatial domain and local pixel-level information, neglecting the importance of global structural features. Additionally, they fail to effectively leverage the importance of phase spectrum information within frequency domain features. To this end, we propose a COD framework BASFNet based on boundary-aware frequency domain and spatial domain fusion. This method uses dual guided integration of frequency domain and spatial domain features. A phase-spectrum-based frequency-enhanced edge exploration module (FEEM) and a spatial core segmentation module (SCSM) are introduced to jointly capture the boundary and object features of camouflaged objects. These features are then effectively integrated through a spatial-frequency fusion interaction module (SFFIM). Furthermore, the boundary detection is further optimized through an boundary-aware training strategy. BASFNet outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on three benchmark datasets, validating the effectiveness of the fusion of frequency and spatial domain information in COD tasks.
