Abstract
Modern Video Object Segmentation (VOS) involves tracking and segmenting user-specified targets. While recent approaches have achieved remarkable performance in single-target scenarios, extending them to multi-target settings typically involves replicating the single-target processing for each individual object, resulting in reduced frame rates (FPS) with unbounded latency as target count increases. Built upon Segment Anything 2 (SAM2), we propose SAM-MT, which addresses this by transforming the model into an interactive framework for real-time Multi-Target video segmentation. SAM-MT uses explicit queries to represent different individual targets, in parallel with a shared representation for global context. It employs decoupled masked attention to keep individual identities distinct from cross-target interference, and sparse memory for stable temporal evolution, along with specialized strategies for occlusion handling and overlap prevention. SAM-MT successfully decouples latency from the number of targets, achieving real-time speed on par with single-target baselines (>36 FPS for 10 targets) while maintaining SAM2's robust video segmentation performance.

Complex video object segmentation requires robust target propagation under severe occlusion, disappearance and reappearance. Although SAM3 provides strong promptable mask propagation, a uniform inference path remains unreliable for tiny targets with insufficient visual evidence and semantic-dominated targets whose identities depend on explicit attributes. To this end, we present VOS-Agent, a collaborative framework that retains SAM3 as the shared dense segmentation module and conditionally activates specialized agents according to target characteristics. A Target Perception and Routing Agent assigns each sequence to a regular, tiny, or semantic-dominated route. Tiny targets are supported by a Visual Tracking Agent through confidence-aware box prompts, while semantic-dominated targets are handled by an MLLM-based Semantic Agent through description-guided localization and candidate verification. On the MOSEv2 test set, VOS-Agent achieves 69.82% on the official
J&F˙ metric and ranks first in the MOSEv2 Track of the 8th LSVOS Challenge at ECCV 2026.

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated strong image-level visual understanding and reasoning, yet their pixel-level perception across both images and videos remains limited. Foundation segmentation models such as the SAM series produce high-quality masks, but they rely on low-level visual prompts and cannot natively interpret complex conversational instructions. Existing segmentation MLLMs narrow this gap, but are usually specialized for either images or videos and rarely support both textual and visual prompts in one interface. We introduce X2SAM, a unified segmentation MLLM that extends any-segmentation capabilities from images to videos. Given conversational instructions and visual prompts, X2SAM couples an LLM with a Mask Memory module that stores guided vision features for temporally consistent video mask generation. The same formulation supports generic, open-vocabulary, referring, reasoning, grounded conversation generation, interactive, and visual grounded segmentation across image and video inputs. We further introduce the Video Visual Grounded (V-VGD) segmentation benchmark, which evaluates whether a model can segment object tracks in videos from interactive visual prompts. With a unified joint training strategy over heterogeneous image and video datasets, X2SAM delivers strong video segmentation performance, remains competitive on image segmentation benchmarks, and preserves general image and video chat ability.

Object-centric models inspired by DETR have become the dominant paradigm for open-vocabulary video instance segmentation (OV-VIS). While recent efforts have reduced the computational cost of pixel decoding, textual modality fusion, and object decoding to make these architectures more suitable for mobile devices, real-time on-device inference at high frame rates remains an open challenge. In this paper, we introduce SegFS, a dual-stream fast-slow framework that significantly improves efficiency without sacrificing accuracy. On sparse keyframes, an open-vocabulary object-based model predicts instance-level representations. These representations are then projected back into the backbone feature space to condition a lightweight fast network, which efficiently relocalizes and segments the instances in subsequent frames. By shifting instance propagation from object decoding to feature-space conditioning, our approach decouples multimodal semantic understanding from dense mask prediction and enables efficient temporal propagation. The proposed fast branch achieves up to 14x lower latency than the mobile-oriented MOBIUS model, while maintaining competitive segmentation performance on standard OV-VIS benchmarks.
