Scene2Sound: Auditory-Grounded Soundscape Generation for 3D Gaussian Worlds

Abstract

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) turns captured or generated imagery into photorealistic 3D world simulations that users can freely explore, yet these worlds remain silent. Because existing audio generation methods condition on a single image or viewpoint, their sound is tied to that observation and cannot stay consistent while a listener moves. We introduce the task of generating a spatially consistent soundscape for a given 3DGS world through auditory grounding, identifying which objects in the world should emit sound and anchoring each to a persistent 3D position, and present Scene2Sound, a training-free framework built on this grounding. From the input world alone, our pipeline selects viewpoints that jointly cover the scene, identifies sound-emitting objects with a vision-language model, and associates the multi-view detections into 3D instances through Gaussian set matching, which measures the overlap between the Gaussian sets that render each detection. Each source then receives generated audio that a standard object-based audio engine spatializes in real time at arbitrary listener poses. We further propose two spatial-consistency metrics, one testing whether rendered audio responds consistently to listener motion and one testing whether the claimed sources are supported by views held out from their placement. On a curated set of generated 3DGS worlds and on 3DGS scenes generated from real-world 360-degree captures, Scene2Sound preserves the audio quality of strong per-viewpoint baselines while remaining spatially consistent where per-viewpoint and single-panorama pipelines do not, and a user study confirms the perceptual benefit. Geo2Sound: A Scalable Geo-Aligned Framework for Soundscape Generation from Satellite Imagery

Recent image-to-audio models have shown impressive performance on object-centric visual scenes. However, their application to satellite imagery remains limited by the complex, wide-area semantic ambiguity of top-down views. While satellite imagery provides a uniquely scalable source for global soundscape generation, matching these views to real acoustic environments with unique spatial structures is inherently difficult. To address this challenge, we introduce Geo2Sound, a novel task and framework for generating geographically realistic soundscapes from satellite imagery. Specifically, Geo2Sound combines structural geospatial attributes modeling, semantic hypothesis expansion, and geo-acoustic alignment in a unified framework. A lightweight classifier summarizes overhead scenes into compact geographic attributes, multiple sound-oriented semantic hypotheses are used to generate diverse acoustically plausible candidates, and a geo-acoustic alignment module projects geographic attributes into the acoustic embedding space and identifies the candidate most consistent with the candidate sets. Moreover, we establish SatSound-Bench, the first benchmark comprising over 20k high-quality paired satellite images, text descriptions, and real-world audio recordings, collected from the field across more than 10 countries and complemented by three public datasets. Experiments show that Geo2Sound achieves a SOTA FAD of 1.765, outperforming the strongest baseline by 50.0%. Human evaluations further confirm substantial gains in both realism (26.5%) and semantic alignment, validating our high-fidelity synthesis on scale. Objects as Audio-Visual Modal Sound Fields

While modern 3D reconstruction excels at modeling object geometry and appearance, it largely ignores the rich acoustic cues revealed through physical interaction. Object impact sounds convey material, stiffness, and structural properties that complement vision, yet existing impact sound modeling approaches either rely on expensive physics-based simulation or require large datasets to generalize in a purely data-driven manner. We introduce Audio-Visual Modal Sound Field (AV-MSF), a novel object-level acoustic representation reconstructed from multi-view images and only a few impact sound recordings. AV-MSF builds on 3D Gaussian Splatting integrated with dense 3D visual feature to provide a strong geometry-aware prior, and represents the impact sound field using compact, physically meaningful modal parameters, enabling robust few-shot reconstruction. Experiments on two real-world datasets show that AV-MSF achieves state-of-the-art impact sound rendering, outperforming both physics-based and data-driven baselines. Furthermore, we demonstrate downstream applications enabled by our representation, including contact localization and object sound editing.

SoundscapeAgent: Agentic Soundscape Construction for Controllable Synthesis and Scalable Audio-Language Supervision

We present an agentic soundscape construction framework for controllable compositional audio generation that makes explicit the scene planning, source selection, temporal layout, and rendering steps typically handled implicitly by single-shot text-to-audio models. An LLM-based agent converts user intent into an executable scene plan, acquires assets through retrieval and on-demand generation, renders controllable multi-event mixtures, and exports aligned scene metadata. The framework also supports human-in-the-loop interaction through user-guided tool selection and editable scene plans. Together, these components provide an inspectable and reusable approach to controllable soundscape synthesis and scalable audio-language data construction. Listener studies and objective metrics demonstrate competitive generation performance against text-to-audio baselines, while models trained with agent-generated data consistently outperform real-only baselines in downstream audio reasoning.
