ReMoMask-2: Latent Retrieval-Augmented Masked Motion Generation

Authors: Yiran WangZeyu ZhangLing ShaoHao Tang

Abstract

Text-to-motion (T2M) generation maps natural language to human joint movements, aiding gaming, VR, and robotics. Retrieval-Augmented Text-to-Motion (RAG-T2M) improves generation on complex descriptions by conditioning on retrieved motion-text pairs. However, existing RAG-T2M models face two challenges: coarse-grained retrieval and fusion mechanisms overlook the hierarchical, spatial-temporal topology of human motion, and a representation gap exists because retrieved evidence resides in a semantic space separate from the generator's latents. To address the first, we present ReMoMask, a structure-aware RAG framework coupling Hierarchical Bidirectional Momentum (HBM) contrastive learning to align global and part-level features with text; Semantic Spatial-Temporal Attention (SSTA) for topology-aware fusion; and Topology Structured Masking (TSM) to force robust part-level grounding via adaptive masking. To address the second, we introduce ReMoMask-2, which rebuilds the retrieval database directly within the generator's pre-quantization latent space and aligns text queries via a distilled lightweight projector, allowing the generator to directly consume the retrieved motion's semantic content. Extensive experiments on HumanML3D, KIT-ML, and SnapMoGen demonstrate our retriever achieves state-of-the-art accuracy, while ReMoMask-2 attains the lowest FID on KIT-ML and SnapMoGen; notably, its single mask-transformer stage surpasses ReMoMask's full two-stage pipeline and delivers the fastest inference.

Re^2MoGen: Open-Vocabulary Motion Generation via LLM Reasoning and Physics-Aware Refinement

Text-to-motion (T2M) generation aims to control the behavior of a target character via textual descriptions. Leveraging text-motion paired datasets, existing T2M models have achieved impressive performance in generating high-quality motions within the distribution of their training data. However, their performance deteriorates notably when the motion descriptions differ significantly from the training texts. To address this issue, we propose Re2^2MoGen, a Reasoning and Refinement open-vocabulary Motion Generation framework that leverages enhanced Large Language Model (LLM) reasoning to generate an initial motion planning and then refine its physical plausibility via reinforcement learning (RL) post-training. Specifically, Re2^2MoGen consists of three stages: We first employ Monte Carlo tree search to enhance the LLM's reasoning ability in generating reasonable keyframes of the motion based on text prompts, specifying only the root and several key joints' positions to ease the reasoning process. Then, we apply a human pose model as a prior to optimize the full-body poses based on the planned keyframes and use the resulting incomplete motion to supervise fine-tuning a pre-trained motion generator via a dynamic temporal matching objective, enabling spatiotemporal completion. Finally, we use post-training with physics-aware reward to refine motion quality to eliminate physical implausibility in LLM-planned motions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our framework can generate semantically consistent and physically plausible motions and achieve state-of-the-art performance in open-vocabulary motion generation.

MoLingo: Motion-Language Alignment for Text-to-Human Motion Generation

We introduce MoLingo, a text-to-motion (T2M) model that generates realistic, lifelike human motion by denoising in a continuous latent space. Recent works perform latent space diffusion, either on the whole latent at once or auto-regressively over multiple latents. In this paper, we study how to make diffusion on continuous motion latents work best. We focus on two questions: (1) how to build a semantically aligned latent space so diffusion becomes more effective, and (2) how to best inject text conditioning so the motion follows the description closely. We propose a semantic-aligned motion encoder trained with frame-level text labels so that latents with similar text meaning stay close, which makes the latent space more diffusion-friendly. We also compare single-token conditioning with a multi-token cross-attention scheme and find that cross-attention gives better motion realism and text-motion alignment. With semantically aligned latents, auto-regressive generation, and cross-attention text conditioning, our model sets a new state of the art in human motion generation on standard metrics and in a user study. We will release our code and models for further research and downstream usage.

Plan, Don't Pose: Long Composite Motion Generation with Text-Aligned BFM

Text-to-motion (T2M) generation has broad applications in character animation, virtual avatars, and human-robot interaction. Existing methods typically generate pose trajectories or motion tokens directly from language, forcing a single model to handle semantic interpretation, long-horizon structure, and low-level physical realization. This coupling makes them costly and often unreliable for long, compositional, or semantically dense prompts. We propose Text2BFM, the first framework that aligns natural language with pretrained Behavioral Foundation Models (BFMs) for T2M generation without relying on heavy end-to-end motion generators. Text2BFM operates in the latent policy space of a frozen BFM, using it as an executable motion prior. A text-aligned variational behavioral bottleneck compresses BFM policy-latent sequences into compact motion representations that are compatible with language and preserve long-horizon behavioral structure. Generation is performed in this compact behavioral manifold with a lightweight conditional generator, and the resulting latent encoded behaviors are decoded into policy latents that drive the pretrained frozen BFM. By decoupling semantic planning from motion execution, Text2BFM achieves efficient, robust T2M generation and strong performance on long, compositional textual descriptions.
