Abstract

Monocular 3D object detection methods increasingly rely on depth-guided transformers, but they operate entirely in the perspective image plane where spatial relationships are distorted by foreshortening. We propose MonoMIP, a dual-decoder framework that adds complementary 3D geometric reasoning through Bird's-Eye View (BEV) features constructed via Multi-Height Inverse Perspective Mapping. We perform IPM at K elevation planes spanning ground to rooftop, producing an ordered stack of height-conditioned metric BEV features that reduces above-ground misprojection and exposes depth-dependent appearance variation across planes. A BEV decoder with multi-scale deformable attention aggregates this multi-height evidence per query, while a depth-guided 3D decoder provides complementary perspective-space predictions. Without extra training data, MonoMIP attains 25.84% Moderate AP3D|R40 on KITTI val and 21.66% on the official test set for Car, outperforming recent published monocular methods on both the KITTI and Waymo benchmarks.

Map-Det3D: Metric Feed-Forward 3D Reconstruction Prior for Multi-view 3D Object Detection from Streaming Inputs

Metric 3D object detection is a core capability for embodied agents, yet most reliable systems lean on depth sensors, trading away cost, power, and integration simplicity. This motivates monocular 3D detection, which avoids additional constraints, yet it faces a major obstacle: from a single image, depth, and especially absolute scale, are underconstrained. As a result, the prevailing pattern of detecting in 2D and then predicting 3D attributes is often brittle, since modest range errors can dominate 3D localization, and the learned scale prior can fail when cameras, motion, or environments undergo domain shifts. To address this, we propose Map-Det3D, an online multi-view 3D object detection model that brings detection directly into a 3D space reconstructed from RGB. We map a short temporal window into multiple views and repurpose a feed-forward metric 3D reconstruction model as our geometric backbone while tuning its object-aware capabilities. Building on this representation, Map-Det3D directly predicts boxes in metric 3D space, without the widely used 2D-to-3D lifting. Experiments across different benchmarks show that this design supports strong online performance and robust transfer without adaptation, suggesting that training reconstruction priors for detection is a practical route to stable metric 3D detection from monocular video. LeAD-M3D: Leveraging Asymmetric Distillation for Real-Time Monocular 3D Detection

Real-time monocular 3D object detection remains challenging due to severe depth ambiguity, viewpoint shifts, and the high computational cost of 3D reasoning. Existing approaches either rely on LiDAR or geometric priors to compensate for missing depth or sacrifice efficiency to achieve competitive accuracy. We introduce LeAD-M3D, a monocular 3D detector that achieves state-of-the-art accuracy and real-time inference without extra modalities. Our method is enabled by three key components. Asymmetric Augmentation Denoising Distillation (A2D2) transfers geometric knowledge from a clean-image teacher to a MixUp-noised student via a quality- and importance-weighted depth-feature loss, enabling stronger depth reasoning without LiDAR. 3D-aware Consistent Matching (CM3D_{\text{3D}}) improves prediction-to-ground truth assignment by integrating 3D MGIoU into the matching score, yielding stable and precise supervision. Finally, Confidence-Gated 3D Inference (CGI3D_{\text{3D}}) accelerates inference by restricting expensive 3D regression to confident regions. Together, these contributions set a new Pareto frontier for monocular 3D detection: LeAD-M3D achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on KITTI and Waymo, and the best reported car AP on Rope3D, while running up to 3.6 ×\,\times faster than prior high-accuracy models (e.g., MonoDiff). LeAD-M3D demonstrates that high fidelity and real-time monocular 3D detection is simultaneously attainable, without LiDAR, stereo, or strong geometric assumptions.

MonoPRIO: Adaptive Prior Conditioning for Unified Monocular 3D Object Detection

Monocular 3D object detection remains challenging because size and depth are underdetermined by single-view evidence, particularly under occlusion, truncation, and scale-depth ambiguity. Although recent methods improve depth and geometric reasoning, metric size remains unstable in unified multi-class settings, where class variability and limited visibility broaden plausible size modes. We propose MonoPRIO, a unified monocular detector that targets this bottleneck through adaptive prior conditioning in the size pathway. MonoPRIO constructs class-aware size prototypes offline, routes each decoder query to a soft mixture prior, applies uncertainty-aware log-space conditioning, and uses Cluster-Aligned Prior (CAP) regularisation on matched positives. On the KITTI test server, among the compared methods reporting all three categories, MonoPRIO achieves the highest Moderate AP for Car, Pedestrian, and Cyclist. In the car-only setting, it obtains the best 3D bounding-box AP across Easy, Moderate, and Hard among the compared methods without additional depth or LiDAR supervision, while requiring lower latency than MonoCLUE under matched measurement conditions. The frozen CLIP RN50 encoder is executed only during offline prior-bank construction and not during detector training or inference. Ablations show that simple prior baselines do not recover the full-model gain and that learned soft routing outperforms uniform and hard routing over the same visual-size bank. Routed injection provides the main improvement; CAP is complementary. MonoPRIO improves over MonoDGP on the nuScenes frontal protocol. The clearest benefits occur in low-data and partially occluded regimes, while atypical geometry or severe visibility loss can cause prior mismatch.
