Abstract

Real desktop automation is neither purely visual nor purely programmatic. Agents must understand user-facing interfaces while efficiently manipulating files, scripts, and system state. However, native GUI/code coordination cannot be obtained by prompt-level tool composition. In our preliminary experiments, naively adding a code tool degrades a GUI agent, revealing that GUI/code routing must be internalized through training on high-quality hybrid data. We present OS-Helix, an end-to-end trained multimodal computer-using agent that unifies GUI actions and code execution in one action space. To construct the required supervision, we introduce application-artifact composition, pairing desktop applications with authentic file artifacts to instantiate executable Ubuntu states, and a decoupled instruction/evaluator generation pipeline that produces environment-grounded tasks whose final states can be verified regardless of the solution modality. We cold-start the policy with SFT on filtered hybrid data and further improve it through online RL in live desktop environments. For RL, we propose Step-balanced GSPO, which aggregates importance weight by action step rather than raw assistant tokens to prevent long code actions from dominating heterogeneous-action optimization. On OSWorld-Verified, OS-Helix-27B and OS-Helix-35B-A3B achieve relative improvements of 35.0% and 33.7% over their matched Qwen3.5 hybrid baselines, while OS-Helix-27B-RL further improves by 42.9% to reach 66.44% success. Ablations provide evidence consistent with contributions from learned GUI/code coordination, scalable verifiable supervision, and action step balanced optimization, while demonstrating cross-platform transfer on WindowsAgentArena. CUA-Universe: A Scalable and Dynamic Environment for Hybrid GUI+CLI Agents

Computer-use agents have advanced on benchmarks like OSWorld and AndroidWorld, but still act mostly through the GUI, often producing inefficient trajectories. Real-world computer work is hybrid, combining visual-state inspection with precise, high-throughput command-line operations, so capable agents must coordinate both modalities over shared application state. Yet scalable hybrid environments remain scarce because supporting both GUI and CLI over real applications typically requires substantial manual engineering for each application. Existing agents also struggle to use the two interfaces complementarily: CLI-native agents lack visual perception for tasks involving interface state or layout, while GUI-native agents are inefficient for operations better executed through commands. We introduce CUA-Universe, a scalable environment-to-data pipeline that turns real desktop software into hybrid GUI+CLI environments. App-Forge adapts applications into reproducible VMs and command-line surfaces it discovers, wraps, or generates, scaling to 16 applications; Task-Weave synthesizes diverse hybrid tasks of controllable difficulty from reusable operations over seed files; and Path-Steer steers rollouts along efficient hybrid paths and harvests verified trajectories for post-training. Training on this data shifts behavior from inefficient GUI interaction and brittle CLI scripting toward effective GUI+CLI orchestration. Our 9B model improves both success and efficiency on CUA-Verse (Score +39.3 pts; -37% steps, -60% tokens), OSWorld (SR +16.8 pts; -57% steps, -44% tokens), and OSWorld-MCP (Score +7.84 pts; -27% steps, -30% tokens). CUA-Universe provides a scalable path toward more capable and efficient computer-use agents.

ENVS: Environment-Native Verified Search for Long-Horizon GUI Agents

As multimodal agents move from interface understanding to real software control, successful trajectory discovery in live desktop environments becomes a key challenge. GUI tasks require long-horizon sequences of precise mouse and keyboard actions, while feedback is sparse, delayed, and costly to obtain through VM rollouts. We propose Environment-Native Verified Search (ENVS), a training-time search-and-filter pipeline that uses the environment to construct verified supervision before policy optimization: it branches over behaviorally distinct GUI actions in live OSWorld VMs, verifies successful leaves, and trains from globally balanced step-level supervision. To evaluate robustness under realistic desktop interruptions, we also introduce OSWorld-Noisy, a dynamic benchmark for recoverable desktop interruptions that preserves the original tasks while testing whether agents can refocus, dismiss, wait, or recover under live perturbations. On the 300-task OSWorld pool, ENVS reaches 30.3 pass@8 on original evaluations and 29.0 on OSWorld-Noisy, outperforming matched ARPO-style online RL while reducing compute from 184-192 to 138-153 GPU-hours; even with only 30% of its search data, ENVS reaches 27.0 pass@8, exceeding ARPO from the base model. Training from noisy environments also better preserves visual-reasoning abilities on auxiliary benchmarks, including OSWorld-G Refusal (16.7 vs. 1.9) and BLINK Functional Correspondence (26.2 vs. 23.1).

Qwen-UI-Agent Technical Report: Toward Next-Generation Real-World Centric Foundation GUI Agents

GUI agents have the potential to become a general purpose executor over existing digital devices. To advance them toward real-world use, we envision agents that operate reliably on real devices, execute workflows across platforms, combine GUI interaction with CLI execution, complete long-horizon tasks, proactively initiate useful services, and autonomously improve their capabilities with minimal human effort. Guided by this vision, we present Qwen-UI-Agent, a real-world centric foundation GUI agent spanning mobile, computer-use, web, and DeepSearch environments. Qwen-UI-Agent combines diverse sandbox environments with a large-scale real-device mobile runtime. Its unified action space interleaves GUI operations with CLI execution and generates batched actions in a single model turn. An AutoResearch-style data flywheel uses agents to construct tasks and environments, diagnose failures, and plan subsequent iterations. Online RL supports training on trajectories exceeding 100 turns, with over 10,000 concurrent environments accelerating rollout. A lightweight harness layer supports proactive service initiation and stateful workflows across mobile and computer. Across a broad suite of evaluations, Qwen-UI-Agent sets state-of-the-art performance on mobile-use benchmarks while delivering competitive performance on computer- and browser-use tasks against frontier models, including Opus 4.8, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and GPT-5.6 Sol. On mobile use, it achieves 82.1% on MobileWorld, 92.2% on MobileWorld-Real, and 97.5% on AndroidDaily. On computer use, it achieves 79.5% on OSWorld-Verified and a 40.0% partial-progress score on OSWorld-v2. On browser use and GUI grounding, it achieves 73.6% on WebArena and 81.5% on ScreenSpot-Pro, respectively.
