Abstract

Industrial assemblies require more than a recognizable shape: functional parts, interfaces, dimensions and service features must satisfy a detailed request together. We introduce IndustrialCAD-1400, a text-to-CAD benchmark for this industrial setting. Its 1,400 requests combine 400 equipment categories across 40 domains with 250 four-case design families. Family requests specify a median of 17 named component or configuration roles and six explicit numeric targets; controlled variants test whether dimensions change while shared structure is retained. Task construction draws on documented manufacturer information, owner specifications and engineering guidance. Models generate geometry programs from requests, and a common Blender environment executes them to produce scenes, optional measurements, and standardized views for evaluation. A request assessment of front, isometric, and top views measures visible component, arrangement, and interface fulfillment without requiring a single reference geometry. Five stratified panels preserve complete families while covering the benchmark exactly once, enabling balanced comparisons and separating industrial breadth from controlled numerical responsiveness. In conclusion, IndustrialCAD-1400 extends text-to-CAD from recognizable part geometry to industrial assembly synthesis under joint component, interface, spatial, and numerical specifications.

MUSE: Benchmarking Assembly Structure and Interface Geometry in Multi-Component Text-to-CAD Generation

Large language models (LLMs) have recently advanced text-driven 3D generation, yet generating CAD models that satisfy practical design requirements remains challenging. Existing benchmarks focus primarily on single-part CAD models and geometric similarity, providing limited assessment of assembly structure and interface geometry. To address this gap, we introduce MUSE, a Text-to-CAD benchmark for generating multi-component, editable boundary representation (B-Rep) assemblies. MUSE pairs practical design instances with structured Design Specifications and evaluates generated outputs across four dimensions: code executability, geometric validity, structural and interface fidelity, and functional consistency. We further introduce Structure and Interface Evaluation (SIE), which combines reference Physical Assembly Graphs with direct B-Rep analysis to assess component correspondence, connectivity, interface types, and interface clearances. Experiments on proprietary and open-weight LLMs show that high execution success does not necessarily translate into correct assembly structure or interface geometry. Together, MUSE provides a benchmark and evaluation framework for studying multi-component Text-to-CAD generation beyond shape similarity. BenchCAD: A Comprehensive, Industry-Standard Benchmark for Programmatic CAD

Industrial Computer-Aided Design (CAD) code generation requires models to produce executable parametric programs from visual or textual inputs. Beyond recognizing the outer shape of a part, this task involves understanding its 3D structure, inferring engineering parameters, and choosing CAD operations that reflect how the part would be designed and manufactured. Despite the promise of Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) for this task, they are rarely evaluated on whether these capabilities jointly hold in realistic industrial CAD settings. We present BenchCAD, a unified benchmark for industrial CAD reasoning. BenchCAD contains 17,900 execution-verified CadQuery programs across 106 industrial part families, including bevel gears, compression springs, twist drills, and other reusable engineering designs. It evaluates models through visual question answering, code question answering, image-to-code generation, and instruction-guided code editing, enabling fine-grained analysis across perception, parametric abstraction, and executable program synthesis. Across 10+ frontier models, BenchCAD shows that current systems often recover coarse outer geometry but fail to produce faithful parametric CAD programs. Common failures include missing fine 3D structure, misinterpreting industrial design parameters, and replacing essential operations such as sweeps, lofts, and twist-extrudes with simpler sketch-and-extrude patterns. Fine-tuning and reinforcement learning improve in-distribution performance, but generalization to unseen part families remains limited. These results position BenchCAD as a benchmark for measuring and improving the industrial readiness of multimodal CAD automation.

Text-to-CAD Evaluation with CADTests

Text-to-CAD has recently emerged as an important task with the potential to substantially accelerate design workflows. Despite its significance, there has been surprisingly little work on Text-to-CAD evaluation, and assessing CAD model generation performance remains a considerable challenge. In this work, we introduce a new evaluation perspective for Text-to-CAD based on automated testing. We propose CADTestBench, the first test-based benchmark for Text-to-CAD, based on CADTests, executable software tests that verify whether a generated CAD model satisfies the geometric and topological requirements of the input prompt. Using CADTestBench, we conduct comprehensive benchmarking of recent Text-to-CAD methods and further demonstrate that CADTests can also guide CAD model generation, yielding simple baselines that surpass performance of current methods. CADTestBench code and data are available at GitHub and Hugging Face dataset.
