Abstract

Humanoid-human interaction requires robots to operate under severe partial observability: during close physical contact, the human partner is occluded, truncated, or outside the robot's field of view, causing pose estimation to fail and often necessitating external tracking or privileged human state. At the same time, heavy mutual occlusions introduce errors into the human-human motion-capture data used for learning. We present REACT, a framework for learning deployable humanoid-human interaction policies from human-human demonstrations. REACT treats semantic contact structure as the key supervisory signal connecting demonstration processing, interaction learning, and onboard control. First, a VLM-guided contact modeling and retargeting pipeline identifies semantically meaningful contacts and transfers them onto humanoid-human geometry while preserving interaction structure. Using these annotations, privileged interaction policies learn physically grounded behaviors through interaction-aware contact rewards and are then distilled into deployable egocentric depth policies trained entirely from onboard sensing using photorealistic human depth rendering. To address severe partial observability, we introduce generative partner-state modeling objectives that predict partner motion from occluded egocentric views. We evaluate REACT in simulation and on a real Unitree G1 humanoid across five contact-rich interactions. Semantic contact modeling substantially improves preservation of demonstrated interactions, while generative partner-state modeling improves contact recall on four of five interactions, most under heavy occlusion. On real hardware, REACT performs all five interactions using onboard sensing alone.

HOI-Retarget: Contact-Centric Retargeting for Human-Object Interaction

Learning from demonstration (LfD) has enabled humanoid robots to acquire diverse whole-body skills, but extending this paradigm to human-object interaction (HOI) is limited by the availability of robot-compatible interaction references. We present HOI-Retarget, a contact-centric retargeting method that transfers HOI onto a humanoid robot for large-scale motion-data generation. Its windowed trajectory optimization uses every labeled contact as a target in the object frame, balancing body tracking, foot support and smoothness under the robot's kinematic limits. The method can augment a single demonstration across object sizes, absorb contacts reconstructed from monocular video, and extend to several robots manipulating one object. We publicly release the code and the retargeted motion dataset.

HIGenNTO: Scalable Humanoid Interaction Generation via Noise-Space Trajectory Optimization

Humanoid robots can acquire complex skills by imitating kinematic humanoid motion references, yet reliable references for contact-rich interactions remain difficult to obtain: motion capture deteriorates under occlusion and close physical contact, while retargeting introduces additional contact and geometric inconsistencies. We present HIGenNTO, a framework that synthesizes humanoid-scene interaction motion references by optimizing the initial noise of a pretrained text-conditioned motion model under sparse spatiotemporal and scene constraints. The same formulation satisfies desired contacts, avoids collisions, and maintains stable support while retaining the prior's realism and temporal coherence, generating interaction motions from scratch and composing long-horizon behaviors stage-wise. Across robot-environment and robot-object tasks, HIGenNTO produces motions that can be executed by tracking policies in simulation and used to train depth-conditioned visuomotor policies operating solely from onboard sensing. We deploy these policies on a Unitree G1 across four contact-rich tasks. Finally, the task specifications themselves can be written by a coding agent, which proposes interaction tasks and compiles them into prompt, constraint, and scene programs, authoring three of our eight evaluated tasks and four further behaviors. Together, these results establish a scalable path from high-level task descriptions to physically executable humanoid interactions.

Weave: Learning Whole-Body Dexterous Loco-Manipulation from Human-Object Interactions

Learning humanoid-object interaction requires coordinating whole-body balance, locomotion, and dexterous hand contact to control both robot and object motion. Human demonstrations provide examples of coordinated interaction, but transferring these behaviors to humanoid robots requires learning how to establish and maintain effective contacts under different embodiments and dynamics. We present Weave, a unified framework for learning whole-body dexterous humanoid-object interaction from captured human demonstrations. Weave first converts captured human-object interactions into executable robot-object references through contact-aware retargeting and approach-motion completion. At its core is a contact- and geometry-aware policy that jointly commands 29 body joints and 12 actuated finger joints across multiple objects and interaction sequences. Evaluation across nine objects yields a 92.5% success rate on trained interactions and, without any additional training, 65.0% on sequences never seen during training. We additionally release ~9,000 physically executed rollouts spanning ~23 hours, providing robot-object trajectories with contact annotations for downstream interaction-policy learning and physically consistent HOI motion generation.
