Abstract

Generating editable computer-aided design (CAD) models from text requires selecting operations that produce the intended changes to the geometry constructed so far. An incorrect operation can compromise subsequent steps, making reliable multi-step generation challenging. Existing methods based on large language models (LLMs) primarily learn to predict commands, without explicit supervision of the geometric states those commands should produce. Inspired by world-action models, we introduce CAD-WAM, which couples geometry-conditioned action generation with next-state prediction. We define complete modeling operations as actions in a CAD domain-specific language (DSL) and encode surface point clouds of intermediate solids into compact latent states using a pretrained variational autoencoder. An LLM backbone generates the next action from the target description and current geometric state, while an auxiliary head on the same backbone predicts the next state to provide geometric supervision during training. We construct step-wise training trajectories from parametric CAD models in the DeepCAD dataset, pairing each trajectory with an expert-level textual description. At inference, each generated action is executed by a CAD kernel, and the resulting solid is re-encoded to inform the next decision. On the DeepCAD test set, CAD-WAM outperforms the task-specific baselines in geometric accuracy and output validity, with larger gains on models requiring more operations, and produces more accurate geometry than general-purpose LLMs prompted with the same DSL. Ablations further show that next-state supervision reduces mean Chamfer distance by 13.2% relative to an otherwise identical model trained only to predict actions. PR-CAD: Progressive Refinement for Unified Controllable and Faithful Text-to-CAD Generation with Large Language Models

The construction of CAD models has traditionally relied on labor-intensive manual operations and specialized expertise. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have inspired research into text-to-CAD generation. However, existing approaches typically treat generation and editing as disjoint tasks, limiting their practicality. We propose PR-CAD, a progressive refinement framework that unifies generation and editing for controllable and faithful text-to-CAD modeling. To support this, we curate a high-fidelity interaction dataset spanning the full CAD lifecycle, encompassing multiple CAD representations as well as both qualitative and quantitative descriptions. The dataset systematically defines the types of edit operations and generates highly human-like interaction data. Building on a CAD representation tailored for LLMs, we propose a reinforcement learning-enhanced reasoning framework that integrates intent understanding, parameter estimation, and precise edit localization into a single agent. This enables an "all-in-one" solution for both design creation and refinement. Extensive experiments demonstrate strong mutual reinforcement between generation and editing tasks, and across qualitative and quantitative modalities. On public benchmarks, PR-CAD achieves state-of-the-art controllability and faithfulness in both generation and refinement scenarios, while also proving user-friendly and significantly improving CAD modeling efficiency.

Arko-T: A Foundation Model for Text-to-Structured 3D Generation

Text-to-3D systems can now synthesize a model from a single sentence, yet the result is a shape to render, not a design to edit. We present Arko-T, a 4B-parameter text-to-design model that maps natural-language intent directly into executable, parametric CAD programs. Rather than optimizing for code executability alone, Arko-T aligns every stage of the pipeline to a formal notion of design state, so that data curation, code normalization, and execution-grounded supervision all work to preserve the features, parameters, and construction logic that make a CAD artifact editable. Benchmarked against seven frontier LLMs across 12 metrics, Arko-T attains the best score on 8 and the second-best on 3 more, at roughly one-tenth the per-benchmark cost. The results suggest that targeted design-level training at moderate scale can match frontier general-purpose models on structured CAD generation.

GuideCAD: A Lightweight Multimodal Framework for 3D CAD Model Generation via Prefix Embedding

Multi-modal approaches used for 3D CAD generation require substantial computational resources, necessitating efficient training. To address this, we propose GuideCAD, which leverages semantically rich visual-textual representations having only a small number of trainable parameters to generate 3D CAD models. Specifically, GuideCAD uses a mapping network that converts image embeddings into prefix embeddings, enabling a pretrained large language model to integrate visual and textual information. As a result, a transformer-based decoder predicts the construction sequence using the visual-textual embeddings in order to generate the 3D CAD model. For experimental evaluation, we construct a new dataset, referred to as GuideCAD, which consists of text-image pairs. Each pair includes a text prompt that represents a 3D CAD construction sequence and its corresponding 3D CAD image. Our experimental results show that GuideCAD generates comparably high-quality 3D CAD models while using approximately four times fewer parameters and achieving twice the training efficiency compared to fine-tuning approaches.
