Argumentation Theory
Argumentation theory studies the structure and evaluation of arguments, aiming to understand how humans reason and make decisions, particularly in complex or controversial situations. Current research focuses on applying argumentation frameworks to diverse areas like hate speech mitigation, AI explainability, and legal reasoning, often leveraging large language models and incorporating techniques from deontic logic and structured argumentation. This work is significant for improving the transparency and trustworthiness of AI systems, enhancing the quality of online discourse, and providing more robust methods for decision-making in various fields.
