Computational Politeness
Computational politeness focuses on automatically identifying and generating polite language in text, aiming to improve human-computer interaction and cross-cultural communication. Current research emphasizes developing and applying machine learning models, often using Support Vector Machines (SVMs) or other techniques, to analyze politeness across diverse languages and contexts, considering factors like gender, power dynamics, and cultural norms. This field is significant for advancing natural language processing, enabling the creation of more socially adept AI systems and offering insights into the complex relationship between language, culture, and social interaction.
