Cultural Dominance

Cultural dominance in artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the disproportionate influence of certain cultures, primarily Western, in the development and output of AI systems. Current research focuses on identifying and mitigating this bias, particularly within large language models (LLMs), by analyzing how these models represent cultural concepts across different languages and examining the impact on various tasks, such as job prestige assessment. This research highlights the ethical implications of culturally biased AI, emphasizing the need for more diverse training data and culturally sensitive design to prevent the reinforcement of existing social inequalities and promote equitable AI development.
