Pain Intensity
Accurately assessing pain intensity is crucial for effective pain management, yet subjective self-reporting methods are limited. Current research focuses on developing objective, automated pain assessment using machine learning, particularly deep learning models like transformers, recurrent neural networks (RNNs, including GRUs), and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), often analyzing facial expressions, physiological signals (e.g., EDA, sEMG), or even patient narratives. These advancements aim to improve the objectivity and precision of pain assessment, leading to better diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately, improved patient outcomes. The development of robust and reliable methods for objective pain intensity estimation holds significant promise for transforming pain management practices.
