Facial Pain
Facial pain detection is a rapidly evolving field aiming to develop accurate and automated methods for assessing pain levels, particularly in populations with communication difficulties or atypical pain expressions. Current research heavily utilizes deep learning, employing various architectures like convolutional neural networks and vision transformers, to analyze facial expressions from images and videos, often leveraging large datasets of labeled facial pain expressions. These advancements hold significant promise for improving pain management in clinical settings, particularly for patients with neurological conditions, those undergoing procedures, and individuals experiencing chronic pain like cancer patients, by providing objective and timely pain assessments.
