Polypharmacy Side Effect
Polypharmacy, the use of five or more medications concurrently, significantly increases the risk of adverse drug events (ADEs). Research focuses on improving ADE prediction through advanced machine learning models, including neural networks (e.g., encoder-decoder architectures, graph neural networks), and tensor factorization methods, aiming to identify dangerous drug combinations and optimize medication regimens. These efforts are crucial for enhancing patient safety and informing clinical decision-making, particularly in managing chronic diseases where polypharmacy is common. Improved prediction models and clinical decision support systems are actively being developed to mitigate the risks associated with polypharmacy.
