Tone Mapping Operator
Tone mapping operators (TMOs) are image processing algorithms that adapt high dynamic range (HDR) images, containing a wider range of brightness than displayable, to the limited dynamic range of standard displays. Current research focuses on improving perceptual quality by incorporating human visual system characteristics and color appearance models like CIECAM16, as well as addressing limitations in recovering detail from overexposed regions through techniques like semantic-aware diffusion inpainting. These advancements aim to produce visually more appealing and objectively better low dynamic range (LDR) images, impacting fields like photography, computer graphics, and HDR imaging technology.
