Uncanny Valley
The Uncanny Valley describes the unsettling feeling evoked by entities that appear almost human but possess subtle imperfections, leading to negative emotional responses. Current research focuses on understanding this phenomenon in various contexts, including image generation (using diffusion models and GANs), face swapping (analyzing gaze and viewer perception), and even adversarial robustness in machine learning models. This research aims to improve the realism and acceptance of artificial entities in applications like virtual reality, robotics, and digital avatars, ultimately impacting the design and development of human-computer interaction.
