DIGS: Distribution-Informed Gaussian Splatting for Training-Free Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation typically binds semantic features to the per-Gaussian state via per-scene gradient training (1-4 h) or the more recent closed-form distillation. Both commit each primitive to a single feature; therefore, boundary Gaussians spanning multiple 2D instances are forced into a hard decision that degrades retrieval accuracy and yields unstable mask boundaries at render time. We present DIGS, a training-free framework with two stages, class-agnostic mapping and multi-modal encoding, that decouples instance discovery from linguistic naming. At the Gaussian level, our distribution-informed representation maintains an explicit top-MM label distribution per primitive, updated by a tempered Dirichlet rule; preservation of multi-peaked label distributions at boundary primitives allows a late-argmax renderer to recover clean instance boundaries. A bidirectional state machine aggregates these distributions into a persistent class-agnostic instance ontology. The instance-level encoding stage then fuses the CLIP visual embedding of each instance's isolated 3D footprint with the CLIP-text embedding of an LLM-generated attribute description, disambiguating visually similar instances. On a single A100, DIGS completes mapping and instance encoding on LERF-OVS in 1.0-3.2 min per scene, depending on whether LLM fusion is enabled, and serves native 3D queries in 5.4 ms. It reaches 71.95% mean mIoU on LERF-OVS, outperforming both the training-free SFS and training-based LaGa baselines. DIGS also achieves the highest mean mIoU on LERF-Mask and 3D-OVS and surpasses Gaga and ObjectGS on Replica under their respective evaluation protocols. PePESeg3D: Perception Prior Enhances Multi-Scale Segmentation for 3D Gaussian Splatting

Recent advancements in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have extended its capabilities to multi-scale segmentation. Existing methods reconstruct a scene with Gaussian primitives and learn multi-scale segmentation features separately, which leaves the geometry unaware of semantic structure and the feature learning dependent on incomplete mask supervision. To address these limitations, we present PePESeg3D, a novel framework that injects perception priors into a multi-scale 3D Gaussian segmentation pipeline. To fully exploit perception priors, we integrate them not only into contrastive feature learning but also into the upstream geometry reconstruction. Specifically, PePE Reconstruction incorporates monocular depth and mask constraints to ensure semantically coherent object structures. Building on this aligned geometry, PePE Contrastive Learning leverages dense depth-color cues and view-consistent centroid supervision to compensate for the incompleteness of multi-scale masks obtained from a 2D foundation model. Extensive experiments on the SPIn-NeRF, LERF-Mask, and NVOS benchmarks demonstrate that PePESeg3D achieves state-of-the-art performance in both multi-scale segmentation and scene reconstruction, highlighting the importance of integrating perception priors into both geometry optimization and feature learning for accurate multi-scale 3D segmentation. Our code is available at https://github.com/BeCow5X5/PePESeg3D.

VCAR: Training-Free 3DGS Segmentation via View Completeness and Axis-Aware Boundary Refinement

Semantic segmentation in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) is crucial for advancing 3D scene understanding. Existing methods predominantly rely on feature distillation, which incurs substantial per-scene training overhead and often yields blurred segmentation boundaries. We identify that these boundary artifacts are driven in part by insufficient viewpoint coverage and boundary overflow of anisotropic Gaussian primitives. To address these challenges, we propose VCAR, a training-free coarse-to-fine segmentation strategy based on View Completeness and Axis-aware Boundary Refinement. In the coarse stage, a visibility-based weighted multi-view voting scheme rapidly localizes the target. In the fine stage, an object-centric sphere derived from the coarse result generates supplementary viewpoints via Spherical Spiral Sampling (SSS), allowing multi-view voting on the augmented views to precisely refine object boundaries and suppress irrelevant 3D Gaussians. Moreover, we introduce Axis-aware Boundary Refinement (ABR) to mitigate artifacts from anisotropic primitives. By decomposing the projected 2D covariance into per-axis contributions, ABR identifies the dominant axis responsible for boundary leakage and applies targeted anisotropic compression exclusively along that axis. Extensive experiments on NVOS and LERF demonstrate that VCAR achieves state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy and efficiency without training. Seed2GS: Camera-Free, Training-Free Object Extraction from 3D Gaussian Scenes via a Single Reference-View Grounding

Extracting a target object from a pre-built 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) scene enables interactive 3D editing. Existing methods either train for tens of minutes per scene, sacrifice accuracy, or require original reconstruction cameras that pre-built assets may not include. We present Seed2GS, which achieves the highest reported LERF-MASK accuracy without original reconstruction cameras or scene-specific representation training. Its key insight is to separate target identity from 3D coverage. QD-SAM3 selects one reliable reference mask from several open-vocabulary candidates, fixing identity once. Seed lift and visibility-adaptive virtual orbits then expose the object from new viewpoints, while tracking propagates the seed without repeated detection. Because the scene remains frozen, these masks supervise only one temporary foreground logit per Gaussian. On LERF-MASK, Seed2GS reaches 92.1% mean intersection over union (mIoU) with a measured compute-only latency of 9.3 seconds, 3.7 points above the strongest scene-trained baseline and 7.6 points above the closest camera-free baseline. With one fixed test reference per scene, the complete pipeline retains 91.1% mIoU; replacing its predicted seed with a ground-truth mask improves mIoU by only 0.72 points. On 3D-OVS, Seed2GS reaches 95.7% mIoU.

CDSeg: A Renderable Gaussian Carrier for Image-to-3D Label Transfer

Modern image models provide strong cues about what should be segmented in each view, but their masks do not by themselves determine where those labels should persist in 3D. We present Cross-Domain Segmentation via Gaussian Splatting (CDSeg), a label-transfer interface that requires no task-specific 3D segmentation training and uses Gaussian primitives as a renderable label carrier. An external mask source supplies the labels, while renderer-derived visibility determines which 3D primitives receive them. The carrier is instantiated either by completing each input point into one Gaussian, preserving its index, or by reusing the native primitives of an optimized Gaussian scene. CDSeg records pixel--primitive associations during rendering and fuses multi-view masks through voting and a local filter. The resulting labels can be returned to the original points, retained on the native Gaussian scene, or rendered into other views. CDSeg covers promptable, automatic instance, semantic, and LiDAR settings and processes scenes with millions of primitives in seconds. It obtains 92.35% mIoU on DesktopObjects-360, 95.89% on NeRDS-360, and 65.77% on the full ScanNet-v2 validation split using the provided 2D semantic annotations. CDSeg thereby provides one interface for reusing 2D masks across point clouds, Gaussian scenes, and image views without a task-specific 3D segmentation network.

ZeroSplat: Generalized Referring Segmentation in 3D Gaussian Splatting

Recent advancements in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have enabled language-guided scene understanding. However, existing Referring 3D Gaussian Splatting (R3DGS) methods are fundamentally restricted to single-target queries. To reflect the ambiguity of real-world instructions, we introduce the Generalized Referring 3D Gaussian Splatting Segmentation (GR3DGS) task, which requires dynamically segmenting an arbitrary number of targets (0, 1, or NN). To facilitate comprehensive evaluation of this new task, we construct two new benchmarks: GR-LERF and GR-ScanNet. Crucially, existing R3DGS paradigms exhibit fundamental technical bottlenecks that severely limit their performance on the GR3DGS task: they lack intrinsic 3D point-level understanding by operating merely on 2D rendered pixels, and they incur prohibitive computational overhead by requiring per-scene optimization to embed heavy semantic features. To dismantle these bottlenecks, we propose ZeroSplat, a novel training-free and zero-feature framework. ZeroSplat lifts 2D Vision-Language Model (VLM) priors into 3D space through robust multi-view geometric constraints. This strategy enables intrinsic point-level understanding without incurring any additional feature storage. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ZeroSplat significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods across generalized and single-target scenarios while maintaining exceptional efficiency. Online Segment 3D Gaussians via Launching Virtual Drones

Interactive segmentation of 3D Gaussians offers a compelling opportunity for real-time manipulation of 3D scenes, thanks to the real-time rendering capability of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). However, existing methods require a time-consuming per-scene setup - typically tens of seconds or even minutes - before interactive segmentation can begin on a raw 3DGS scene. This setup involves multi-view mask preparation, mask lifting, and feature distillation, creating a major bottleneck for online applications. To address this limitation, we aim to completely eliminate the setup stage for interactive 3DGS segmentation while keeping the segmentation time practical (under 1 second). In this work, we present SAGO (Segment Any Gaussians Online), a novel setup-free framework for interactive 3DGS segmentation. By introducing virtual drones, our method reframes the 3D segmentation problem as an online Next-Best-View (NBV) planning task formulated within a Markov process. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SAGO can extract clean 3D assets directly from 3D Gaussians with sub-second latency, thereby enabling a broad range of downstream applications such as object manipulation and scene editing. Moreover, our method achieves over a 50x speedup compared to the previous setup-free 3DGS segmentation frameworks.

Relation-Centric Open-Vocabulary 3D Gaussian Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation is challenging because it requires language understanding for diverse queries and accurate separation of Gaussians along object boundaries. Prior approaches either embed language knowledge into individual Gaussians to improve query responsiveness or optimize per-Gaussian instance features to encode object identity. However, these strategies may produce noisy Gaussian segmentations or rely on cost-inefficient per-scene optimization. We propose PairGS, a framework that reframes Gaussian segmentation as modeling pairwise relations between Gaussians. 3D Gaussian representations provide rich signals for relation estimation, such as view contribution weights and multi-view mask evidence. By leveraging these cues, PairGS explicitly constructs a relation graph for segmentation without a heavy optimization process. PairGS first proposes sparse edge candidates using low-dimensional descriptors, computes precise pairwise affinities only on those candidates, and builds a hierarchical cluster tree for multi-granular querying. It achieves state-of-the-art results on open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation benchmarks, while the fast variant is 50x faster than optimization-based instance-feature approaches.

Do Gaussian Scenes Contain Enough Structure for Intrinsic Segmentation?

Gaussian segmentation is usually posed as transferring object knowledge from 2D foundation models into a 3D representation. This leaves a fundamental question unanswered: how much object structure is already encoded by a trained gaussian scene? We investigate this question with GS-IntSeg, an intrinsic, mask-free, and training-free method that constructs partitions using only: gaussian geometry, opacity, spherical-harmonic radiance, and deformation trajectories. On the dynamic Neu3D and HyperNeRF datasets, GS-IntSeg obtains a mean of 0.677 mIoU across multi-view and monocular scenes without masks, external features, or segmentation training. This intrinsic formulation also enables GS-IntSeg to require approximately 2.5 minutes per HyperNeRF scene on a consumer RTX 5080 to construct its partitions, over 10x faster than SAM-based methods that require mask generation, feature rendering, and other stages. These results suggest that gaussians alone can approach mask-supervised performance in gaussian scenes segmentation. While a gap remains between intrinsic and foundation model based methods, to our knowledge, GS-IntSeg is the first mask-free approach to gaussian segmentation, motivating a re-evaluation of the assumption that gaussian scene segmentation must be based on external masks and pointing toward an alternative faster, more generalizable segmentation approach.

OP2GS: Object-Aware 3D Gaussian Splatting with Dual-Opacity Primitives

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) provides an explicit and efficient scene representation, but its primitives lack inherent object-level identity, hindering downstream tasks such as open-vocabulary scene understanding. Existing methods typically address this by either distilling high-dimensional feature embeddings into Gaussians or by lifting 2D mask labels into 3D via heuristic refinement. However, feature-based approaches incur heavy storage and decoding overhead, while lifting-based pipelines remain vulnerable to label contamination: Gaussians necessary for appearance reconstruction often receive incorrect object labels during 2D-to-3D projection. We propose OP2GS, an object-aware Gaussian representation that augments each primitive with an explicit instance identity and a dedicated instance opacity σ∗σ^{*} for object-mask rendering. The original opacity σσ remains responsible for visual reconstruction, while σ∗σ^{*} models whether a Gaussian should contribute to a particular object mask. This dual-opacity formulation decouples visual existence from instance occupancy: mislabeled Gaussians can remain available for image rendering while becoming transparent in the object-mask branch. To learn this representation, we introduce a random object loss that optimizes the 1D instance occupancy field using the standard transmittance-based visibility of 3DGS. Semantic descriptors are then attached at the object level through multi-view aggregation, eliminating per-Gaussian feature storage. Compared with feature-training approaches, OP2GS achieves competitive open-vocabulary performance while significantly reducing computational overhead. Compared with training-free pipelines, it leverages physically consistent occupancy learning to resolve visibility ambiguities.

Robust Prior-Guided Segmentation for Editable 3D Gaussian Splatting

3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS) enables real-time 3D scene reconstruction but lacks robust segmentation for editing tasks such as object removal, extraction, and recoloring. Existing approaches that lift 2D segmentations to the 3D domain suffer from view inconsistencies and coarse masks. In this paper, we propose a novel framework that leverages the Segment Anything Model High Quality (SAM-HQ) to generate accurate 2D masks, addressing the limitations of the standard SAM in boundary fidelity and fine-structure preservation. To achieve robust 3D segmentation of any target object in a given scene, we introduce a prior-guided label reassignment method that assigns labels to 3D Gaussians by enforcing multiview consistency with learned priors. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy and enables interactive, real-time object editing while maintaining high visual fidelity. Qualitative results demonstrate superior boundary preservation and practical utility in Virtual Reality (VR) and robotics, advancing 3D scene editing.

NG-GS: NeRF-Guided 3D Gaussian Splatting Segmentation

Recent advances in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have enabled highly efficient and photorealistic novel view synthesis. However, segmenting objects accurately in 3DGS remains challenging due to the discrete nature of Gaussian representations, which often leads to aliasing and artifacts at object boundaries. In this paper, we introduce NG-GS, a novel framework for high-quality object segmentation in 3DGS that explicitly addresses boundary discretization. Our approach begins by automatically identifying ambiguous Gaussians at object boundaries using mask variance analysis. We then apply radial basis function (RBF) interpolation to construct a spatially continuous feature field, enhanced by multi-resolution hash encoding for efficient multi-scale representation. A joint optimization strategy aligns 3DGS with a lightweight NeRF module through alignment and spatial continuity losses, ensuring smooth and consistent segmentation boundaries. Extensive experiments on NVOS, LERF-OVS, and ScanNet benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, with significant gains in boundary mIoU. FaceParts: Segmentation and Editing of Gaussian Splatting

Facial editing is an important task with applications in entertainment, virtual reality, and digital avatars. Most existing approaches rely on generative models in the 2D image domain, while in 3D the task is typically performed through labor-intensive manual editing. We propose FaceParts, a framework for unsupervised segmentation and editing of Gaussian Splatting avatars. Unlike existing 2D or mesh-assisted methods, our approach operates directly in the Gaussian domain, decomposing avatars into semantically coherent facial parts without supervision. The method integrates feature disentanglement, density-based clustering, and FLAME-anchored part transfer, enabling precise editing and cross-avatar part swapping. Experiments on the NeRSemble dataset with 11 subjects demonstrate robust isolation of features such as beards, eyebrows, eyes and mustaches. Quantitative evaluation confirms that transferred segments adapt to pose and expression, while maintaining identity consistency (ID = 0.943), low Average Expression Distance (AED = 0.021) and low Average Pose Distance (APD = 0.004).

B3^3-Seg: Camera-Free, Training-Free 3DGS Segmentation via Analytic EIG and Beta-Bernoulli Bayesian Updates

Interactive 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) segmentation is essential for real-time editing of pre-reconstructed assets in film and game production. However, existing methods rely on predefined camera viewpoints, ground-truth labels, or costly retraining, making them impractical for low-latency use. We propose B3^3-Seg (Beta-Bernoulli Bayesian Segmentation for 3DGS), a fast and theoretically grounded method for open-vocabulary 3DGS segmentation under camera-free and training-free conditions. Our approach reformulates segmentation as sequential Beta-Bernoulli Bayesian updates and actively selects the next view via analytic Expected Information Gain (EIG). This Bayesian formulation guarantees the adaptive monotonicity and submodularity of EIG, which produces a greedy (1−1/e)(1{-}1/e) approximation to the optimal view sampling policy. Experiments on multiple datasets show that B3^3-Seg achieves competitive results to high-cost supervised methods while operating end-to-end segmentation within a few seconds. The results demonstrate that B3^3-Seg enables practical, interactive 3DGS segmentation with provable information efficiency.

PointGauss: Point Cloud-Guided Multi-Object Segmentation for Gaussian Splatting

While 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has established new standards for high-fidelity 3D scene modeling, interpreting massive, unstructured Gaussian primitives into meaningful geospatial entities remains a critical challenge for remote sensing and urban applications. Existing 2D-to-3D distillation methods suffer from projection ambiguities, geometric inconsistencies, and computational bottlenecks when applied to complex, large-scale topographies. Furthermore, current benchmarks lack natively aligned 2D-3D ground truth tailored for splatting-based representations. To address these limitations, we propose PointGauss, a unified 3D-native framework for robust semantic parsing and instance segmentation. By treating Gaussian primitives as unstructured point sets, PointGauss leverages Point Transformer V3 (PTv3) to extract scale-invariant geometric features directly from Gaussian attributes, effectively resolving projection ambiguities. To ensure scalability in building-scale scenes, we introduce an adaptive region-of-interest cropping strategy and an instance-aware distance-constrained rasterization pipeline for pixel-level, view-consistent projection. Additionally, we present SplatSeg-360, the first rigorous cross-scale benchmark tailored for 3DGS, comprising 32 complex scenes with full 360∘^\circ coverage and over 6,300 natively aligned 2D-3D masks. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PointGauss operates in real-time and achieves state-of-the-art performance. Notably, it attains approximately 90% 3D-mIoU in large-scale building scenarios and roughly 80% 2D-mIoU in view-consistent 2D instance segmentation, outperforming baseline methods by 16%. (Code)
