SCIC: Scope- and Codebook-Aware Instruction Conditioning for Speaker-Adapted Expressive TTS

Long-form live-streaming TTS requires context-dependent prosody and paragraph-level coherence. However, many existing instruction-based TTS systems use global or uniform conditions, providing limited explicit control over clause-level relative prosodic changes. We introduce Speaker-Relative Inline Prosody Control, where each Pitch, Energy, or Speed instruction targets a clause relative to the preceding clause from the same speaker, while Pause uses an absolute duration interval. In codec-based TTS, Speed and Pause affect sequence length, whereas Pitch and Energy rely on residual codebooks. By analyzing Qwen3-TTS RVQ codebooks, we find that Energy concentrates in early residual codebooks, whereas Pitch accumulates across a deeper prefix. We therefore propose Scope- and Codebook-Aware Instruction Conditioning (SCIC), combining a Temporal Instruction Router for frame-level tag activation with Tag-Specific Codebook Weighting over residual codebooks. SCIC improves speaker-relative Pitch and Energy control over standard instruction fine-tuning using text-token tags. We further apply multi-reward GDPO post-training to jointly optimize control and quality, improving control accuracy while preserving CER and speaker similarity. In long-form synthesis, SCIC produces a more distinct paragraph-level expressive hierarchy than speaker-adapted SFT without instructions. RVQ Position Aware Speculative Decoding for On Device Text to Speech

Autoregressive decoding (AR) with Transformer models is memory bandwidth bound at single stream inference, the typical deployment regime for on device text to speech (TTS). Real time streaming with Qwen3-TTS requires more than 200 sequential model calls per second, dominated by the inner loop MultiCodeDecoder that emits the 15 residual vector quantization (RVQ) codes per 80 ms audio frame. We propose RVQ position aware speculative decoding for the MultiCodeDecoder, attaining 2.47 accepted tokens per model call at 5×10−45\times10^{-4} percent added parameters and 10 to 20 percent per round speculation/verification overhead, reducing real time synthesis from 200 to 88 sequential model calls per second. The scheme is distributionally lossless under the deployed top-k sampling, and WER parity with the original system is consistent with this guarantee. We deliver 2 to 2.2x speedup for RVQ token generation with Qwen3-TTS 0.6B on recent iPhone and Apple Silicon Mac devices.

Multi-Dimensional Prosody Judgment For Live Streaming Speech Synthesis

Evaluating live streaming speech synthesis (TTS) requires assessing fine-grained, highly expressive prosody such as emotion, intonation, and energy which traditional MOS predictors fail to capture. While proprietary Large Language Models (LLMs) like Gemini can evaluate these aspects, they are too costly for massive inference and reinforcement learning feedback. To address this, we first introduce Live-ProsodyJudge (LPJ), a cost-effective pairwise evaluator distilled from Gemini into Qwen3-Omni. However, we identify a critical flaw in standard multi-dimensional evaluation: verdict coupling. The judge tends to lazily align all individual dimension scores with its overall preference, collapsing a rich multi-dimensional rubric into a single preference bit. To resolve this, we further propose Decoupled-Live-ProsodyJudge (D-LPJ). D-LPJ eliminates the overall verdict target to prevent blind following, masks uncertain pair-dimensions during Supervised Fine-Tuning(SFT), and introduces a novel span-local GRPO strategy that applies normalized advantages strictly to their corresponding rationale spans. Evaluated on highly curated human-annotated test sets, 10 sample balanced-order LPJ achieves higher point accuracy than a single Gemini call, while D-LPJ successfully produces independent, decoupled dimension judgments. Furthermore, in a Best-of-8 TTS candidate selection tournament, the LPJ-selected utterance falls within the human top-3 in 85.29% of high-confidence cases, demonstrating its efficacy for fine-grained TTS preference optimization.

X2-NativeCursor: Native-Token Text Progress Tracking for Incremental-Text Streaming Codec TTS

Incremental-text streaming text-to-speech (TTS) needs online text progress tracking for synchronized highlighting, interruption handling, and dialogue-history updates. Input text arrives before it is spoken, so text arrival alone cannot indicate speech progress. Existing waveform-based alignment requires complete audio or adds acoustic processing during streaming. We propose X2-NativeCursor, a lightweight observer that tracks progress from native speech tokens before waveform decoding without changing the TTS generator. Its normalization plan links spoken labels to their original-text spans. Text and native-token encoders feed a local matcher that estimates the current label position. A separate output rule converts revisable position estimates into a cursor that never moves backward. Mean absolute error against an automatic reference is 0.151 Chinese characters with 80-ms lookahead, versus 1.253 characters with 320-ms lookahead for an online waveform baseline. Alignment real-time factor also decreases from 0.3598 to 0.0180 relative to this baseline. Lower tracking error is retained under a second automatic alignment reference. We evaluate X2-NativeCursor on Qwen3-TTS and validate its adaptation to CosyVoice2 by training a separate observer for each backbone. Code is publicly available at https://github.com/X-Square-Robot/X2Streaming-TTS.

TASTE2: Text-Aligned Speech Modeling and Deployment toward Full-Duplex Voice Interaction

Full-duplex voice interaction requires more than utterance-level conversion. It must process streaming speech, manage turn-taking and interruptions, while preserving pretrained linguistic competence and acoustic paralinguistic cues. We ask whether TASTE (Text-Aligned Speech Tokenization and Embedding) provides a viable path toward this goal. We present TASTE2, which transforms utterance-level TASTE into an incremental dialogue stack. A shared text-token vocabulary removes word-level averaging, while modality-aligned dialogue training predicts one continuous audio latent per text token without interleaving heterogeneous token streams. An incremental Speech Detokenizer enables streaming synthesis through CosyVoice2. After speech and dialogue training, TASTE2 (Merge) reaches 56.3% on LLaMA-Questions against a 57.3% Qwen2.5-7B Instruct text-only reference (98.2% accuracy retention), and TASTE2 (Direct) reaches 53.0% (92.4% retention). We build TASTE2 VoiceBot, which processes user speech incrementally, streams synthesized audio, and stops generation on barge-in. On Full-Duplex-Bench v1.0, TASTE2 and TASTE2 VoiceBot handle interruptions well while maintaining high conversational coherence. Natural conversation remains challenging, and deployed mean time to first audio is 2.701 s on two NVIDIA RTX A6000 after TensorRT acceleration. Finally, to our knowledge, we provide the first systematic characterization of explicit paralinguistic control in a TASTE based model. Fast speaking rate serves as a cross-strategy proof of concept after dialogue SFT, while emotion control is strategy dependent and the remaining attributes stay weak. Together, these results establish TASTE based modeling as a practical route toward full-duplex systems while identifying natural conversation robustness, speech generation latency, and feature general paralinguistic control as open challenges. TontaubeV1: Streaming Text-to-Speech with Hierarchical Codec Modeling and Bounded Context

Text-to-speech systems often face a trade-off between natural prosody and efficient inference: higher perceptual quality typically comes at increased computational cost and latency. We present TontaubeV1, a model that preserves natural prosody while enabling streaming from a single consumer GPU. Speech is encoded by the hierarchical DualCodec representation at 12.5 Hz, which separates a semantic stream from successive acoustic refinements. Our design assumes that prosodic structure is largely established when the semantic stream is generated, and allocates capacity accordingly: a Qwen3-1.7B-derived transformer predicts that stream and thereby the utterance duration, while three progressively smaller Qwen3-0.6B-derived transformers each add one acoustic refinement. Text is tokenized per character rather than by subword. Paired text and audio markers at shared positions support long-form generation with bounded context, and overlapping DualCodec reconstructions are mapped into the VibeVoice acoustic latent space and decoded causally, enabling streaming despite DualCodec's noncausal decoder. The model accepts up to one minute of reference audio for voice conditioning and is designed primarily for English and German, with additional multilingual support. The four predictors total 2.9B parameters; on a single RTX 5090 the streaming path reaches approximately 200 ms to first audio. In separate non-streaming measurements, the end-to-end real-time factor (RTF) is 0.08 for one input and the aggregate RTF is 0.02 across eight concurrent inputs. On our LLM-as-a-judge audiobook-reading benchmark, TontaubeV1 matches ElevenLabs Flash v2.5 and outperforms Fish Audio S2 Pro, the April 2026 Gradium API, and Cartesia Sonic 3 on prosody. The model weights are released on Hugging Face under the Tontaube Community Model License 1.0.

CuteTTS: Efficient and High-Quality Speech Synthesis via Autoregressive Modeling of Continuous Latents

Zero-shot text-to-speech (TTS) now supports interactive assistants, personalized media, and accessibility tools. All TTS systems require faithful linguistic rendering, consistent speaker identity, and low-latency response. Yet compact streaming systems must preserve sufficient acoustic detail in a predictable low-rate latent sequence, while iterative diffusion sampling and classifier-free guidance multiply inference cost at every autoregressive step. To strike a balance between high-fidelity synthesis and low-latency inference, we present CuteTTS, a compact continuous-autoregressive TTS system. It combines semantically aligned causal VAE latents with patch-level autoregression, explicit speaker conditioning, and a bidirectional flow-matching head. We further introduce guidance-step distillation, which absorbs classifier-free guidance and multiple solver steps into a single interval-conditioned student. Evaluations on LibriSpeech and Seed-TTS-Eval demonstrate competitive intelligibility and speaker similarity in zero-shot voice cloning, while distillation lowers first-audio latency by 23.3% and real-time factor by 40.8% relative to the base model with comparable objective and subjective quality. These results provide a practical path toward continuous-autoregressive TTS that reconciles high-fidelity generation with the latency demands of real-time interaction.

Memory Efficient Audio Synthesis with Decoupled Temporal Depth Diffusion Transformers

Siri Expressive Voices synthesize rich, configurable speech in real time and entirely on device, powered by AFM 3 Core Advanced, Apple's most powerful on-device foundation model. This work presents the memory-efficient audio synthesis architecture behind that capability: a detokenizer that converts the semantic audio tokens emitted by the foundation model into high-fidelity audio within the tight compute and memory budget of the Apple Matrix Coprocessor (AMX). We convert semantic audio tokens to a residual vector quantization (RVQ) representation with a three-component design, a streaming encoder, a temporal decoder, and a depth decoder, that systematically decouples temporal and depth processing. A single reusable depth decoder with Diffusion Transformer (DiT)-style stage conditioning generates all RVQ levels autoregressively, replacing the dedicated per-level decoders of prior multi-decoder architectures, while causal sliding window attention with fixed-window key-value caching yields constant memory complexity independent of sequence length. Deployed on the AMX, the detokenizer sustains roughly 10 ms per generation step, about 16x faster than real time, with a peak runtime memory of only 21 MB and 329 MB of on-device assets, enabling continuous streaming synthesis of 20-320 seconds of audio. This constant, small footprint replaces the linear and quadratic memory scaling of conventional transformer- and GAN-based approaches. Ablation studies validate the key architectural components, and audio quality assessment confirms that the architecture maintains synthesis fidelity while achieving efficiency gains over existing methods. Operating at a 1-billion-parameter activation size within AFM 3 Core Advanced, it improves Mean Opinion Score by +0.28 overall (4.15 vs. 3.87) and by +0.42 on conversational speech (4.24 vs. 3.82) over the prior on-device text-to-speech system.

Faster IndexTTS-2: Accelerating and Streaming Autoregressive Zero-Shot Text-to-Speech Synthesis on GPUs

Autoregressive text-to-speech models achieve strong naturalness but suffer from slow inference due to sequential token generation, limiting their deployment in production applications that require low latency. IndexTTS-2 is a state-of-the-art autoregressive TTS model consisting of a GPT, a flow-matching Diffusion Transformer, and a vocoder. Despite its high synthesis quality, its inference speed barely reaches real-time without streaming or batching support. We present Faster IndexTTS-2, which accelerates all neural network components of IndexTTS-2 for production deployment on GPUs using NVIDIA TensorRT and TensorRT-LLM. Faster IndexTTS-2 also enables streaming synthesis for latency-sensitive interactive applications, and batched inference across all components to maximize GPU utilization. Experiments on the Seed-TTS benchmark for both English and Chinese demonstrate up to 5.0×\times speedup on the autoregressive GPT and 3.6×\times end-to-end, with minimal degradation in word error rate, speaker similarity, and naturalness. Our methodology provides a practical reference for efficiently accelerating similar autoregressive speech models on GPUs.

ZONOS2 Technical Report

We present ZONOS2 8B, our latest TTS model, which achieves state-of-the-art naturalness, prosody, and voice cloning fidelity. We improve upon Zonos-v0.1 across scale, data, and training recipe. We scale the model from 1.6B to 8B total parameters (900M active) with a novel mixture-of-experts (MoE) backbone, improving inference latency and throughput. We expand our training corpus from 200K to over 6M hours using a new data processing pipeline, and we simplify our post-training and conditioning recipes to improve naturalness and voice cloning fidelity. We evaluate ZONOS2 8B on quality, speaker similarity, WER, and ZTTS1-Eval, our novel TTS benchmark, where it performs competitively with state-of-the-art systems while maintaining good streaming latency. We release our model weights and example inference code under an Apache 2.0 license on GitHub and Hugging Face.

Streaming T5-based Text-to-Speech Synthesis with Limited Lookahead

Streaming text-to-speech synthesis in cascaded LLM-TTS systems still faces latency challenges as most TTS models require full context before initiating generation. We present S5-TTS, a streaming variant of T5-TTS that enables low-latency, word-by-word incremental speech synthesis through encoder-decoder language modeling and monotonic alignment learning. S5-TTS begins generating speech immediately after receiving the first few words, substantially reducing end-to-end response latency. To maintain quality under limited lookahead, we introduce a lookahead-causal masking mechanism with Conv-based auxiliary attention that preserves intelligibility and speaker similarity, and employ interleaved multi-source distillation to further restore naturalness. Experiments show that S5-TTS achieves comparable quality to full-context T5-TTS, supports zero-shot synthesis with high speaker similarity, and significantly reduces end-to-end latency for practical conversational AI systems.

FlashTTS: Fast Streaming TTS with MTP Acceleration and X-pred Mean Flow Distillation

Recent progress in speech dialogue systems requires Text-to-Speech (TTS) models to be faster and more responsive. Modern speech dialogue systems impose two primary requirements on TTS models: low latency and support for streaming inputs and outputs. However, most existing single-codebook LLM-based TTS methods rely on multi-stage pipelines that lack native streaming capabilities. These systems typically suffer from high end-to-end latency due to slow autoregressive prediction and multi-step flow matching. To address these limitations, we propose FlashTTS, an open-source and low-latency streaming TTS framework. FlashTTS introduces a lagged multi-track architecture that natively processes streaming text and speech inputs, thereby eliminating the need for sentence-level buffering. To accelerate acoustic generation, we integrate parallel Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) with an X-pred mean flow matching decoder. This configuration achieves high-fidelity token-to-mel generation in exactly two function evaluations (2-NFE). By jointly optimizing input processing and decoding efficiency, FlashTTS offers a practical foundation for real-time speech dialogue systems. Experiments show that FlashTTS substantially reduces First-Packet Latency to 325ms compared to robust streaming baselines, all while preserving strong zero-shot voice cloning and cross-lingual intelligibility. Speech samples are available. The model code and checkpoints will be released as open source.

Chatterbox-Flash: Prior-Calibrated Block Diffusion for Streaming Zero-Shot TTS

We present Chatterbox-Flash, a zero-shot text-to-speech model obtained by fine-tuning a pretrained autoregressive TTS decoder into a block-diffusion decoder, enabling parallel token generation within each block while retaining block-by-block streaming. We find that naively transferring mainstream block-diffusion decoding to discrete speech tokens degrades quality, as a long-tail token distribution biases parallel position selection toward a few high-frequency tokens. To mitigate this without architectural modification, we introduce two inference-time techniques: prior-calibrated scoring, which subtracts the block-level marginal token distribution, and an early-decoding schedule, which adaptively terminates iteration based on calibrated confidence. On standard zero-shot TTS benchmarks, Chatterbox-Flash attains high-fidelity synthesis comparable to strong autoregressive and non-autoregressive baselines, while supporting streaming inference with time-to-first-packet on par with streaming AR systems and substantially lower real-time factor. Code and audio samples are available at https://github.com/resemble-ai/chatterbox-flash.

Self-EmoQ: Plutchik-Guided Value-based Planning to Drive Streaming Emotional TTS

Emotional interaction is increasingly crucial for conversational AI, yet current systems lack a self-emotion determination mechanism to drive the streaming text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis. We propose an emotion-planning framework that determines the emotion prior to the textual generation, grounding the downstream emotional TTS in a streaming manner. The framework is implemented by a plug-and-play LLM module, initialized from pretrained LLMs, and trained by reinforcement learning (RL) with emotions as the actions. A hybrid reward is employed which combines imitation signals with theory-driven scoring, in which the theory of Plutchik's wheel of emotions is adopted. By experiments on DailyDialog, EmoryNLP, IMEOCAP, and MELD, our method outperforms prompting and finetuning baselines on both emotion determination and response quality. We finally implement an entire streaming pipeline for real-time deployment, with the speech quality confirming the framework's emotional alignment, contextual coherence, and expressive fluency. Codes, cases, and demos are available in https://sixingdeguo.github.io/EmoQ-page/.

CTC-TTS: LLM-based dual-streaming text-to-speech with CTC alignment

Large-language-model (LLM)-based text-to-speech (TTS) systems can generate natural speech, but most are not designed for low-latency dual-streaming synthesis. High-quality dual-streaming TTS depends on accurate text--speech alignment and well-designed training sequences that balance synthesis quality and latency. Prior work often relies on GMM-HMM based forced-alignment toolkits (e.g., MFA), which are pipeline-heavy and less flexible than neural aligners; fixed-ratio interleaving of text and speech tokens struggles to capture text--speech alignment regularities. We propose CTC-TTS, which replaces MFA with a CTC based aligner and introduces a bi-word based interleaving strategy. Two variants are designed: CTC-TTS-L (token concatenation along the sequence length) for higher quality and CTC-TTS-F (embedding stacking along the feature dimension) for lower latency. Experiments show that CTC-TTS outperforms fixed-ratio interleaving and MFA-based baselines on streaming synthesis and zero-shot tasks.
