Abstract

Structure-from-Motion (SfM) is a fundamental 3D vision task for recovering camera parameters and scene geometry from multi-view images. While recent deep learning advances enable accurate Monocular Depth Estimation (MDE) from single images without depending on camera motion, integrating MDE into SfM remains a challenge. Unlike conventional triangulated sparse point clouds, MDE produces dense depth maps with significantly higher error variance. Inspired by modern RANSAC estimators, we propose Marginalized Bundle Adjustment (MBA) to mitigate MDE error variance leveraging its density. With MBA, we show that MDE depth maps are sufficiently accurate to yield SoTA or competitive results in SfM and camera relocalization tasks. Through extensive evaluations, we demonstrate consistently robust performance across varying scales, ranging from few-frame setups to large multi-view systems with thousands of images. Our method highlights the significant potential of MDE in multi-view 3D vision.

DGSfM: Depth-Guided Scale-Aware Global Structure-from-Motion

Global Structure-from-Motion (SfM) is an efficient paradigm for recovering camera poses and sparse 3D structure from unordered images. However, its reliance on scale-ambiguous epipolar geometry makes global positioning sensitive to noisy baseline estimates and weak view-graph constraints, while false edges from visually ambiguous pairs can further degrade reconstruction. We propose DGSfM, a depth-aware global SfM pipeline that uses monocular depth maps as a scalable prior while preserving explicit multi-view optimization. For each image pair, we use a depth-aware relative pose solver to convert scale-ambiguous epipolar constraints into scale-aware relative pose constraints. We further improve robustness through view-graph filtering and depth-consistency-based correspondence pruning, which suppress false edges and matches that remain plausible under epipolar geometry alone. Finally, global scale averaging and depth-guided pose-point initialization align monocular depth maps into a common reconstruction scale and provide stable initialization for global positioning and bundle adjustment. Experiments on ETH3D and IMC2021 show that DGSfM consistently improves over strong global SfM baselines across sparse and dense matching front-ends, achieving substantial gains in pose accuracy. M2Depth: Unifying Monocular Depth Foundation Priors with Multi-View Stereo

Deep learning-based Multi-View Stereo (MVS) has advanced significantly but often generalizes poorly to unseen scenes, particularly in occluded areas or regions with limited view overlap. To mitigate this, recent approaches integrate Depth Foundation Models (DFMs) into MVS pipelines to provide monocular depth priors. However, existing methods typically rely on a static, one-way fusion scheme, which fails to fully exploit the complementary strengths of both modalities. We propose a novel framework that overcomes this limitation by tightly coupling a DFM with a cascade MVS pipeline through a bidirectional mutual refinement strategy. Our method leverages MVS depth to resolve the scale ambiguity in monocular predictions, while the monocular depth, in turn, enhances the structural completeness and fine-grained detail of the MVS estimate. Furthermore, we introduce a prior-guided cost volume refinement mechanism that effectively integrates multi-view and monocular information via attention-based fusion and discretized depth bins, thereby promoting local geometric consistency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art MVS approaches on standard benchmarks, producing more complete and generalizable depth maps with sharp boundaries. Furthermore, although not explicitly designed for sparse-view settings, our framework generalizes remarkably well, competing favorably with even dedicated sparse-view methods while maintaining a superior accuracy-efficiency trade-off.

MV-RoMa: From Pairwise Matching into Multi-View Track Reconstruction

Establishing consistent correspondences across images is essential for 3D vision tasks such as structure-from-motion (SfM), yet most existing matchers operate in a pairwise manner, often producing fragmented and geometrically inconsistent tracks when their predictions are chained across views. We propose MV-RoMa, a multi-view dense matching model that jointly estimates dense correspondences from a source image to multiple co-visible targets. Specifically, we design an efficient model architecture which avoids high computational cost of full cross-attention for multi-view feature interaction: (i) multi-view encoder that leverages pair-wise matching results as a geometric prior, and (ii) multi-view matching refiner that refines correspondences using pixel-wise attention. Additionally, we propose a post-processing strategy that integrates our model's consistent multi-view correspondences as high-quality tracks for SfM. Across diverse and challenging benchmarks, MV-RoMa produces more reliable correspondences and substantially denser, more accurate 3D reconstructions than existing sparse and dense matching methods.
