Abstract

Recent advances in generalizable 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have enabled rapid 3D scene reconstruction within seconds, eliminating the need for per-scene optimization. However, existing methods primarily follow an offline reconstruction paradigm, lacking the capacity for continuous reconstruction, which limits their applicability to online scenarios such as robotics and VR/AR. In this paper, we introduce OnlineX, a feed-forward framework that reconstructs both 3D visual appearance and language fields in an online manner using only streaming images. A key challenge in online formulation is the cumulative drift issue, which is rooted in the fundamental conflict between two opposing roles of the memory state: an active role that constantly refreshes to capture high-frequency local geometry, and a stable role that conservatively accumulates and preserves the long-term global structure. To address this, we introduce a decoupled active-to-stable state evolution paradigm. Our framework decouples the memory state into a dedicated active state and a persistent stable state, and then cohesively fuses the information from the former into the latter to achieve both fidelity and stability. Moreover, we jointly model visual appearance and language fields and incorporate an implicit Gaussian fusion module to enhance reconstruction quality. Experiments on mainstream datasets demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms prior work in novel view synthesis and semantic understanding, showcasing robust performance across input sequences of varying lengths with real-time inference speed.

S2GS: Streaming Semantic Gaussian Splatting for Online Scene Understanding and Reconstruction

Existing offline feed-forward methods for joint scene understanding and reconstruction on long image streams often repeatedly perform global computation over an ever-growing set of past observations, causing runtime and GPU memory to increase rapidly with sequence length and limiting scalability. We propose Streaming Semantic Gaussian Splatting (S2GS), a strictly causal, incremental 3D Gaussian semantic field framework: it does not leverage future frames and continuously updates scene geometry, appearance, and instance-level semantics without reprocessing historical frames, enabling scalable online joint reconstruction and understanding. S2GS adopts a geometry-semantic decoupled dual-backbone design: the geometry branch performs causal modeling to drive incremental Gaussian updates, while the semantic branch leverages a 2D foundation vision model and a query-driven decoder to predict segmentation masks and identity embeddings, further stabilized by query-level contrastive alignment and lightweight online association with an instance memory. Experiments show that S2GS matches or outperforms strong offline baselines on joint reconstruction-and-understanding benchmarks, while significantly improving long-horizon scalability: it processes 1,000+ frames with much slower growth in runtime and GPU memory, whereas offline global-processing baselines typically run out of memory at around 80 frames under the same setting.

MoonSplat: Monocular Online Gaussian Splatting with Sim(3) Global Optimization

Online 3D reconstruction from monocular image sequences is a challenging and ongoing research topic. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), leveraging its high-quality real-time rendering capability, empowers online 3D reconstruction to represent dense scenes with enhanced expressiveness, and thus holds great promise for a wide range of applications such as robotics and AR/VR. However, existing online 3DGS methods still suffer from some key challenges: fragile camera pose estimation due to the lack of global optimization, and low optimization efficiency in large-scale or long-sequence scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a robust and efficient online voxelized 3DGS reconstruction framework integrated with global Sim(3)\text{Sim}(3) optimization, which enables reliable camera tracking and efficient global loop closure for both camera poses and voxelized 3DGS. To accelerate the convergence of the voxelized 3DGS, we further introduce a color residual learning strategy, which not only boosts optimization speed but also enhances rendering quality. Extensive experiments on diverse indoor and outdoor datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both camera pose estimation accuracy and rendering quality, while retaining real-time efficiency. Additionally, we develop and deploy a real-world UAV-based active reconstruction system grounded on our proposed method, validating its robustness and generalizability for practical online 3D reconstruction tasks. BAT3R: Robust Online 3D Reconstruction with Bayesian Adaptive State Updates

Feed-forward transformer models have driven remarkable progress in 3D vision, yet their quadratic complexity renders them impractical for long video sequences. Streaming 3D reconstruction addresses this bottleneck by processing frames sequen?tially with constant memory. However, existing recurrent architectures inevitably suffer from progressive degradation over long sequences, as they fail to account for the intrinsic reliability of observations and the accumulated confidence of the historical state, leading to severe error accumulation. To address these issues, we introduce BAT3R, a training-free Bayesian adaptation framework comprising two synergistic modules: State Innovation Gating (SIG) and Bayesian-guided Adaptive State Updating (BASU). SIG acts as a distributional regularizer that anchors state evolution to its geometric initialization, effectively arresting representational drift during long-term inference. Building on this, BASU reformulates state update as a recursive Bayesian inference process within a Kalman filtering framework. By jointly modeling the temporal reliability of observations via information-theoretic gain and spatial relevance via cross-attention maps, BASU achieves an asymmetric spatio-temporal state fusion: well-consolidated historical regions are protected from redundant updates, while genuinely novel scene content is aggressively incor?porated. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks (7-Scenes, TUM, ScanNet, KITTI, etc.) demonstrate that BAT3R consistently outperforms state-of-the-art online 3D reconstruction methods, with the most significant gains observed on long sequences and complex scenes.
