Abstract

We investigate the use of zero-shot text-to-speech (ZS-TTS) as a data augmentation source for low-resource personalized speech synthesis. While synthetic augmentation can provide linguistically rich and phonetically diverse speech, naively mixing large amounts of synthetic speech with limited real recordings often leads to speaker similarity degradation during fine-tuning. To address this issue, we propose ZeSTA, a simple domain-conditioned training framework that distinguishes real and synthetic speech via a lightweight domain embedding, combined with real-data oversampling to stabilize adaptation under extremely limited target data, without modifying the base architecture. Experiments on LibriTTS and an in-house dataset with two ZS-TTS sources demonstrate that our approach improves speaker similarity over naive synthetic augmentation while preserving intelligibility and perceptual quality. VoiceTTA: Enhancing Zero-Shot Text-to-Speech via Reinforcement Learning-Based Test-Time Adaptation

Recently, zero-shot text-to-speech (TTS) has enabled high-fidelity and expressive speech synthesis, but it often fails to imitate unseen speaking styles from uncommon scenarios (e.g., crosstalk, dialects). Moreover, fine-tuning pretrained models requires large, high-quality datasets, limiting rapid personalization. We propose VoiceTTA, a reinforcement learning-based test-time adaptation (TTA) method that improves voice imitation of pretrained zero-shot TTS models. VoiceTTA introduces two style rewards based on coefficient-of-variation differences of F0 and energy, combined with speaker similarity and intelligibility (WER from a pretrained Whisper model), and optimizes learnable prefixes via group relative preference optimization (GRPO) in a flow matching-based model at inference time. Extensive experiments demonstrate substantial improvements on uncommon speech prompts, outperforming state-of-the-art baselines. Audio samples are available at https://voicetta.pages.dev/

DEFINE: Exemplar-Guided Accent Control for Zero-Shot TTS

Zero-shot text-to-speech (TTS) can reproduce an unseen speaker from a short reference recording, but typically entangles speaker identity and accent within the same reference. We introduce DEFINE, an end-to-end framework that decouples these factors by conditioning speaker identity and target accent on separate audio exemplars. A single inference-time guidance weight continuously controls accent strength without retraining. Built on F5-TTS with parameter-efficient LoRA adaptation, DEFINE maps short accent exemplars into a conditioning space using an exemplar encoder supervised through learned accent prototypes, requiring neither accent labels at inference time nor post-synthesis waveform conversion. On seen accents, increasing accent guidance improves accent-probe accuracy from 6.5% to 19.6%. More importantly, a single DEFINE model generalizes accent control beyond its training accent set: on seen and out-of-domain accents, though not on held-out accents, it matches the accent transfer performance of a two-model TTS-voice-conversion cascade while achieving higher speaker similarity and comparable predicted speech quality. These results demonstrate that speaker identity and accent can be independently controlled from audio exemplars within a single zero-shot TTS model, including for accents unseen during training.

Low-Burden Data Augmentation for Dysarthric ASR via Zero-Shot Voice Cloning

Automatic speech recognition remains unreliable for dysarthric speech due to data scarcity and high inter-speaker variability. While synthetic data can address these gaps, traditional methods often require extensive speaker-specific data, reintroducing the collection bottleneck. We investigate zero-shot voice cloning as a low-burden augmentation strategy, using Higgs Audio V2 to clone speakers in the TORGO dataset. We fine-tune (FT) Whisper-medium on cloned, real, and hybrid data and evaluate on held-out real speech. Compared to the zero-shot (31.62%), Clone FT achieved a competitive 26.00% WER, nearly matching the 24.44% and 25.12% seen with Real and Hybrid FT, respectively. Notably, Clone and Hybrid FT outperform Real FT for moderate-severe speakers. Clone FT achieves the best results (11.45% relative) in cross-corpus evaluation on the SAP-1102. These results suggest that zero-shot cloning provides scalable training data that circumvents the costly data collection bottleneck.
