Abstract

Personal Artificial Intelligence is currently hindered by the fragmentation of user data across isolated silos. While Retrieval-Augmented Generation offers a partial remedy, its reliance on unstructured vector similarity fails to capture the latent semantic topology and temporal dependencies essential for holistic sensemaking. We introduce EpisTwin, a neuro-symbolic framework that grounds generative reasoning in a verifiable, user-centric Personal Knowledge Graph. EpisTwin leverages Multimodal Language Models to lift heterogeneous, cross-application data into semantic triples. At inference, EpisTwin enables complex reasoning over the personal semantic graph via an agentic coordinator that combines Graph Retrieval-Augmented Generation with Online Deep Visual Refinement, dynamically re-grounding symbolic entities in their raw visual context. We also introduce PersonalQA-71-100, a synthetic benchmark designed to simulate a realistic user's digital footprint and evaluate EpisTwin performance. Our framework demonstrates robust results across a suite of state-of-the-art judge models, offering a promising direction for trustworthy Personal AI.

PersonalAI 2.0: Enhancing knowledge graph traversal/retrieval with planning mechanism for Personalized LLM Agents

We introduce PersonalAI 2.0 (PAI-2), a novel framework designed to enhance LLM-based systems through integration of external knowledge graphs (KGs). The proposed approach addresses key limitations of existing Graph Retrieval-Augmented Generation (GraphRAG) methods by incorporating a dynamic, multistage pipeline. The central point of the PAI-2 design is its ability to perform adaptive, iterative information search, guided by extracted entities, matched graph vertices and generated clue-queries. Conducted evaluation on five benchmarks (Natural Questions, TriviaQA, HotpotQA, 2WikiMultihopQA and MuSiQue) demonstrates an improvement in the factual correctness of generated answers compared to baseline methods (LightRAG, RAPTOR, HippoRAG 2 and PAI-1). PAI-2 achieves a 9 percentage points (pp) average gain by LLM-as-a-Judge on 2WikiMultihopQA and MuSiQue benchmarks, and attains comparable accuracy to HippoRAG 2 on the TriviaQA and HotpotQA benchmarks with Qwen2.5 7B and multilingual-e5-large reflecting its effectiveness in reducing hallucination rates and increasing recall. We show that enabled search plan enhancement mechanism gain in average a 18 pp boost compared to disabled one by LLM-as-a-Judge across five benchmarks. In addition, an ablation study reveals that PAI-2 achieves superior result on the MINE-1 benchmark, obtaining an 89% information-retention score with Qwen2.5 7B and multilingual-e5-large. Collectively, these findings underscore the potential of PAI-2 to serve as a reusable component for personalized AI applications, which require context-aware knowledge-representation and reasoning capabilities. ASTRA-bench: Evaluating Tool-Use Agent Reasoning and Action Planning with Personal User Context

Next-generation AI must manage vast personal data, diverse tools, and multi-step reasoning, yet most benchmarks remain context-free and single-turn. We present ASTRA-bench (Assistant Skills in Tool-use, Reasoning & Action-planning), a benchmark that uniquely unifies time-evolving personal context with an interactive toolbox and complex user intents. Our event-driven pipeline generates 2,413 scenarios across four protagonists, grounded in longitudinal life events and annotated by referential, functional, and informational complexity. Evaluation of state-of-the-art models (e.g., Claude-4.5-Opus, DeepSeek-V3.2) reveals significant performance degradation under high-complexity conditions, with argument generation emerging as the primary bottleneck. These findings expose critical limitations in current agents' ability to ground reasoning within messy personal context and orchestrate reliable multi-step plans. We release ASTRA-bench with a full execution environment and evaluation scripts to provide a diagnostic testbed for developing truly context-aware AI assistants.

Life-Bench: A Benchmark and Knowledge Graph Framework for Multimodal Personalization Beyond Concept Recognition

As large language models increasingly power personal assistants, users expect them to reason over multimodal life histories, from recognizing people to understanding events to aggregating patterns, yet existing benchmarks primarily target concept-level recognition. We introduce Life-Bench, a fully synthetic, human-verified multimodal benchmark of over 11,800 question-answer pairs across 10 tasks, organized by required evidence scope: concept identification, event understanding, and aggregated reasoning. The benchmark's photo-centric personal histories are distributionally aligned with real user accounts under embedding statistic. The interconnected structure of personal data invites graph-based solutions; we propose LifeGraph, a personal knowledge graph framework providing structured retrieval with on-demand access to source visual evidence, showing particular promise on event and aggregated tasks. Systematic evaluation of four retrieval paradigms on Life-Bench demonstrates that accuracy degrades sharply with evidence scope, falling below 0.40 on aggregated tasks, and that no single paradigm dominates across categories. Performance beyond concept recognition remains modest for all evaluated methods, establishing personalization over multimodal histories as an open challenge and Life-Bench as a testbed for future progress.
