Abstract

Cross-modal image-to-image translation among Electro-Optical (EO), Infrared (IR), and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors is essential for comprehensive multi-modal aerial-view analysis. However, translating between these modalities is notoriously difficult due to their distinct electromagnetic signatures and geometric characteristics. This paper presents EarthBridge, a high-fidelity translation framework developed for the 4th Multi-modal Aerial View Image Challenge -- Translation (MAVIC-T). We explore two distinct methodologies: Diffusion Bridge Implicit Models (DBIM), which we generalize using non-Markovian bridge processes for high-quality deterministic sampling, and Contrastive Unpaired Translation (CUT), which utilizes contrastive learning for structural consistency. Our EarthBridge framework employs a channel-concatenated UNet denoiser trained with Karras-weighted bridge scalings and a specialized "booting noise" initialization to handle the inherent ambiguity in cross-modal mappings. We evaluate these methods across all four challenge tasks (SAR→\rightarrowEO, SAR→\rightarrowRGB, SAR→\rightarrowIR, RGB→\rightarrowIR), achieving superior spatial detail and spectral accuracy. Our solution achieved a composite score of 0.38, securing the second position on the MAVIC-T leaderboard. Code is available at https://github.com/Bili-Sakura/EarthBridge-Preview.

Any2Any: Unified Arbitrary Modality Translation for Remote Sensing

Multi-modal remote sensing imagery provides complementary observations of the same geographic scene, yet such observations are frequently incomplete in practice. Existing cross-modal translation methods treat each modality pair as an independent task, resulting in quadratic complexity and limited generalization to unseen modality combinations. We formulate Any-to-Any translation as inference over a shared latent representation of the scene, where different modalities correspond to partial observations of the same underlying semantics. Based on this formulation, we propose Any2Any, a unified latent diffusion framework that projects heterogeneous inputs into a geometrically aligned latent space. Such structure performs anchored latent regression with a shared backbone, decoupling modality-specific representation learning from semantic mapping. Moreover, lightweight target-specific residual adapters are used to correct systematic latent mismatches without increasing inference complexity. To support learning under sparse but connected supervision, we introduce RST-1M, the first million-scale remote sensing dataset with paired observations across five sensing modalities, providing supervision anchors for any-to-any translation. Experiments across 14 translation tasks show that Any2Any consistently outperforms pairwise translation methods and exhibits strong zero-shot generalization to unseen modality pairs. Code and models are available at https://github.com/MiliLab/Any2Any.

Bridging Modalities and Tasks: A Unified Hierarchical ViT for SAR-to-Optical Translation and Semantic Segmentation

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images have all-weather, day-and-night observation capabilities. However, compared with optical images, their speckle noise and non-intuitive scattering mechanism limit the interpretability of the images. Generative models for SAR-to-optical (S2O) conversion can improve visual interpretability, but existing methods often ignore the constraints on semantic structure, which are necessary for downstream tasks, for the sake of visual effects. We propose a unified collaborative dual-task learning framework, termed BMT (Bridging Modalities and Tasks), that jointly optimizes S2O image translation and semantic segmentation through a shared hierarchical Vision Transformer. The framework integrates: (1) a LocalViTBlock that fuses global self-attention with spatial depthwise convolution through a learnable gating mechanism; (2) an enhanced output module combining multi-scale refinement processing, color correction and anti-aliasing, which calibrates channel-level color statistics through feature fusion; (3) a ControlNet-style conditional injection mechanism that encodes SAR wavelet features and segmentation labels into a multi-scale feature pyramid and injects them at each encoder layer through zero-initialized convolution; (4) a bounded Kendall uncertainty weighting scheme that prevents either task from dominating the shared representation. We evaluate the framework under both paired and unpaired translation settings, on the public WHU-OPT-SAR paired dataset and a self-constructed unpaired ship dataset built from HRSID and DIOR, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves competitive S2O translation quality and semantic segmentation performance. The dataset and source code have been publicly released at https://github.com/Lewisyuaner/BMT-S2O-main.

Earth-OneVision: Extending Remote Sensing Multimodal Large Language Models to More Sensor Modalities and Tasks

RS-MLLMs enable natural-language understanding and spatial reasoning over earth observation imagery. However, existing models support only a narrow range of sensor types and tasks, yielding a fragmented view of the earth and leaving cross-modal geoscientific knowledge largely unexploited. This work presents Earth-OneVision, a 2B RS-MLLM that unifies six sensor modalities (i.e., optical, SAR, infrared, multispectral, temporal, and video) and cross-sensor fusion across 9 task categories within a single autoregressive framework. Three dedicated mechanisms address three bottlenecks. Full-Granularity Vision-Language Alignment (FGVLA) aligns multi-level visual features with the multi-dimensional language space. Spatial-Linguistic Isomorphic Serialization (SLIS) unifies heterogeneous spatial outputs as autoregressive tokens. Progressive Cross-Modality Adaptation (PCMA) decomposes the compound domain gap into sequential stages, tackling the viewpoint and imaging physics gaps in turn. To support joint training, MMRS-OneVision is constructed with ~34M QA pairs spanning all six sensor modalities and cross-sensor fusion across 9 task categories, substantially exceeding existing RS multimodal instruction datasets. With only 2B parameters, Earth-OneVision achieves competitive or state-of-the-art results across extensive benchmarks, consistently matching or outperforming 4B-72B RS-MLLMs. It achieves 87.52% [email protected] on the OPT-RSVG testset for optical visual grounding and 80.68% on the SAR VQA benchmark SARLANG-Bench, exceeding 7B models by over 7%. It further achieves 75.74% recall on the BigEarthNet-MS testset for multispectral classification, and 81.94% MCQ accuracy on EarthMind-Bench for cross-modality reasoning.
